the irish famine and highland clearances
The Irish potato famine and highland clearances also forced alot of migrants into Australia during the gold rush period. These events lasted from 1845 to 1852. -
GOLD
The first gold rush in Australia started in 1851 when prospector Edward Hargraves claimed to have discovered gold near Bathurst, New South Wales.Eight months later, gold was found in Ballarat and bendigo and many people from US and Canada as well as people from Asia immigrated in hope of striking it lucky. -
Population and Depression
During 1890 the population of Australia had almost tripled. Unfortunately we were heading into depression and the banks of Australia were in trouble due to many workplace strikes, many small banks had collapsed but by 1894 the worst was over and the task of rebuiding society began. -

on the 17th of september Queen Victoria officialy proclaimed the Commonwealth of Australia -

This was the day whent the six colonies of australia Victoria, Western Australia,Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland joined together to become one nation.They kept the systems of government that they had come up with as separate colonies but would also have a federal government that was responsible for matters that concernd the whole nation. When the Constitution of Australia came into force, on 1 January 1901, the colonies collectively became states of the Commonwealth of Australia. -
WW1
world war 1 lasted from the 28th of july 1914 to the 11th of july 1918. It was supposed to be the war to end all wars but as we see a few years later that was not the case. World War one was caused by many things but what light the fuse was the assasination of the archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Principe of Serbia.
