British colony Act- Intolerable Act of 1774

4 laws were passed to punish the colony of Massachusett for the Boston Tea Party.

First Continental Congress

Sep 5, 1774

Parliament passed yet another set of laws to punish the colonists for troubles in Boston and elsewhere. Therefore the colonies came to an agreement that they were no longer going to tolerate Great Britain.

Second Continental Congress

May 10, 1775

Meeting was held in Philadelphia. This meeting was held because great Britain refused to compromise let alone reverse it's colonial policies.

First State Constitution

Jan 5, 1776

New Hampshire adopted a constitution less than 2 months later South Carolina followed suit. Most states adopted a written constitution.

Declaration of independence

Apr 4, 1776

Congress adopted this document that declared independence from great Britain.

Articles of Confederation

Sep 15, 1777

This document was approved with each state keeping its Sovereignty, Freedom and Independence.
