Napoleon was in a group that successfully overthrew the French Directory.The Directory had been replaced with 3 Consulates, and Napoleon became the first consul, making him France's leading political figure. To stabilize the former revolutionized France, Napoleon had centralized the government; instituted reforms areas such as the following: banking and education; supported science and arts; and sought to improve relations between his regime and the pope. -

Napoleon's First Exile to Elba
Napoleon's army was defeated by coalition forces during the Battle of Leipzig (aka: the Battle of Nations), he retreated to France, but the forces soon captured Paris in March 1814. Napoleon was forced to abdicate his throne on April 6, 1814 and was sent in exile to Elba, a Mediterranean island of the coast of Italy. He was given sovereignty over Elba, though. And then, Napoleon escaped Elba on February 26, 1815. -

Danglars, and Fernand are jealous of Dantes. Danglars writes a letter accusing Dantes of conspiracy. Fernand sends it to Villefort, the public prosecuter. -

Hundred Day Campaign
After Napoleon escaped Elba, the location of his first exile, he came to the French mainland with 1,000 supporters. King Louis XVIII, who had been the new king, fled. Then Napoleon began to what it is known as the 100 Day Campaign. He had risen up an army to battle against a coalition of allies who include: the Austrians, British, Russians, and Prussians. His plan was to attack them by country one by one to before they could come up with a plan and attack Napoleon. -

Napoleon's Second Exile
Napoleon was exiled to the British-held island of Saint Helena after Napoleon's forced abdication on June 22, 1815. He had lived his last years there in Saint Helena since he had died, most likely from stomach cancer, on May 5, 1821, at age 51. Napoleon was buried on the island Saint Helena. Though, he had requested to be buried "on the banks of Seine, among the French people I have loved so much". Rising Action; Villefort buries his baby
Villefort's and Madame Danglar's illegitimate child is born. In an attempt to save his honor, villefort buries the baby in the backyard. The baby was rescued and raised by Bertuccio. The child's name is Benedetto, later referred to as Andrea Calvacanti. -
Rising Action: Dantes escapes prison
Dantes' friend Abbe Faria dies. Dantes hides in the body bag, pretending to be the priest. Prison guards dump the bag into the water, thinking its the dead priest. Dantes swims away to a nearby island. (Exact date unknown) -

During this time, Edmond names himself the Count of Monte Cristo. He finds the treasure Abbe Faria told him about, and plots his revenge on Fernand, Danglars, Caderousse, and Villefort. -

On 1840, the remains of Napoleon were returned to the country of France and were entombed in a crypt at Les Invalides in Paris. -
Rising Actioin: Revenge on Caderousse
Caderousse broke into the Count's house with a plot to kill him, along with the help of Bertuccio. Instead of the Count being killed, Caderousse was. But before he died, the Count had him write and sign two letters exposing Berutccio. -
Rising Action: Revenge on Fernand
Fernand's revenge is completed. Fernand loses all his money and has to go to court. Albert and Mercedes leave him because he has no honor or money. After this, Fernand feels so awful that he kills himself. -
Resolution: The count finishes his revenge
The Count has finally completed everything he needed to take care of.He has finished his revenge; he finds out what happened; he brings Valentine to Maximilien, and realizes his love. He returns back to Marseilles with his love, Haydee. -
Rising Action: Revenge on Villefort
The Count gets his revenge on Villefort. The Marquise and Marquis de Saint-Meran and Barrios are poisoned and dead in his house. His daugher, Valentine, is poisoned and 'dies'. He goes to court and is exposed as Benedetto's father. His wife, the poisoner, kills herself and her and Villefort's son, Eduoard. -
Climax: Edmond changes
Edouard, Villefort's little child, is dead. This was not the Count's intent; he did not want to harm the next generation. The Count feels regret, and doubts that his revenge is right. -
Falling Action: Revenge on Danglars
Dnaglar's revenge is taken care of. The Count has Danglars captured by Luigi Vampa and his men. Danglars is charged huge fortunes of money for little crumbs of bread. He almost starves to death, but before he does, the Count comes and explains himself. After this, Danglars has lost his fortune and knows all about the Count.
