    Around 1st Century BC, people started using corks to seal wine bottles. Cork trees were seen as holy and only priests were able to cut them down. People in places like Rome were also able to use their leaves for crowns for athletes.

    In Portugal, laws started being passed to preserve cork tree forests. Cork was heavily used for things like ships because of its durability.

    The cork industry starting growing so many people were growing and producing cork trees. Cork was used in the world wars and the cork industry flourished.

  • Cork Reappreciation

    Cork is starting to become very eco friendly and appreciated. It is no longer over used and it is reusable, ecological and biodegradable.
