Magna Carta
The people had forced king john to sign the document because it limited rights to all landholders- rights peoplethat eventually came to apply to all english people this document protected the nobles privilges and authority. -
Mayflower Compact
Pilgrims realized that they needed rules to survive in a new land.
They built a settlement called the plymouth hundreds of miles north of virginia. -
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut
This was the first consitution.They elected they elected representatives from each town to make laws. -
Glorious Revolution
No government or king could have the right to have more power than parliament. -
English Bill of Rights
This document further restricted the monarch's power.It also guaranteed free elections Parliament, the right to a trial, and the elimination of cruel and unusual punishments. -
John Locke
He argued that people had three rights life, liberty, and property that no government could take away.This three rights were called the Natural rights -

He had a idea of the separation of powers dividing the branches of government so no one can become too strong or threaten individual rights. -

He said that people alone had the right to determine how they should be governed. the people agreed to obey the government as long as it protects their rights.
