Cattle ranching was when ranchers would raise the cattle instead of the free ranging cattle, with the railrod expanding it was possible to raise the cattle and send them off to market. -

It is a type of steel fencing wire that is made up of sharp edges and/or points aranged along the strands. Barbed wire created discomfort for any humans and animals attemping to trespass, or with the intension to escape. -

The Transcontinental Railroad stretch across the whole continent, which helped get settlers spread to the unsettled parts of the United States. The Railroad replaced the other ways of transportation, mainly the wagon trains. -

Large discoveries of gold and silver brought more settler to the west looking for jobs. These dicoveries helped populate the west. -
Growth
The growth of new towns and cities provided settlers with land to raise cattle and use to farm. This brought a lot of money out of the west and boosted America's econmy.
