The opium war started when the chinese bombed a british ship that was inporting opium. Opium was a ilegal drug. The war ended in 1842. -

The treaty is what ended the opium war. This was one of first of many "unequal treaties". China had to accept british terms for peace. The emperor sayed thatt he would pay for all of the opium he had destroyed during the war. He also said that he would give the british Hong Kong. -
