    Golden Age 500 BC to 300 BC

    Greece was home to a wealthy civilization that hit its peak between 500 BC and 300 BC. Its people lived by farming, fishing, crafts, and trading. They built 300 City-States and settled in colonies. In 146 BC, Greece was conquered by Rome, but many forms of Greek culture still shape our world.
  • Period: 490 to 500

    Persian War 500 Bc to 490 BC

    In 500 BC the Persian empire grew fast. The Persians won a lot of the Greece city-states. King Darius the king of Persia killed the revolution and sent his army to punish Athens, which had helped the rebels. The Athenian army was outnumbered by the Persians, but it defeated the Persian army at the Battle of Marathon in 490 B.C.

    500 BC to 800 BC - Begining

    The term Ancient, or Archaic, Greece refers to the time three centuries before the classic age, between 800 B.C. and 500 B.C.—a almost mature period in world history. Archaic Greece saw new art, poetry and technology, but all it was the age in which the polis, or city-state, was made.
  • Olympics 776 BC

    Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894.Olympics started in 776 BC that was the first Olympics. The sports on the Olympics were chariot racing, javelin throwing, wrestling, long jumping, discus throwing and running.
  • Food

    The Ancient Greeks grew olives, grapes, figs and wheat and kept goats, for milk and cheese. They ate lots of bread, beans and olives. In the Summer there were lots of fresh fruit and vegetables to eat and in the winter they ate dried fruit and food they had saved like apples and lentils.
  • Farming

    A lot of ancient Greeks lived by farming or herding. Most farmers worked alone and some with the help of slaves. The entire family helped with farming. Farmers raised pigs, grew wheat and barley, and tended olive groves and vineyards. Sheep and goats were on poor land. The Greeks made a lot of olive oil, wine, and wool, which they moved.
  • Education

    The Greek Educational System has of three successive levels: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary education level. Primary education level can be divided into Pre-school Education which is offered by kindergartens and Compulsory Primary Education which is offered by Primary schools.
  • End 146 BC

    The civilization of Ancient Greece came into world history in the 8th century BC. Normally it is regarded as coming to an end when Greece fell to the Romans, in 146 BC. However, big Greek (or "Hellenistic", as modern scholars call them) kingdoms lasted longer than this.
