    Carolina was called by the French in 1563. It extended from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean during that time. Other colonies tried to settle there people and other things on it but in 1665 the other permanent settlement was effected by this because of the immigrants. notes
  • Roanoke

    Roanoke
    Roanoke is a southern colony and is the first American/European British settlement which is called "Jamestown". In the year 1587, about 100 men, women and children settled on Roanoke Island under the leader called John White. This colony is one of the most interesting things in American history. This settlement was destroyed and abandoned because of the lack of people taking care of it.

    Jamestown was the very first permanent English settlement in North America. It was established on May the 14 of 1607, the colony gave England its very first fight in the European competition for the new world which has been dominated by the Spanish. notes

    House of Burgesses
    Which was a representative of an assembly in the Virginia colony. It actually had an outgrowth of the very first elective governing body in the British overseas possession. In the mid 1600s, Sir William Berkley split the house of the burgesses off as a separate chamber.
  • Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower compact established the foundation for their colonies government. They were the first colony to plan its very first colonies and to have it pledged that the decisions would be made by the will of the majority of their men. notes
  • New York

    The Dutch settled along the Hudson river in the year 1624, and then a few years later they made the colony of New Amsterdam on Manhattan island in New York. In the mid 1600s, the English took control of the area and renamed it what we call it today "New York". and was one of the original 13 colonies.

    In 1630, the puritans settled this colony. With the charter from the King Charles the 1st, just about 1,000 puritans settled in Massachusetts. They were led by the governor named John Winthrop who believed that "We should be as a city up on a hill. They eyes of people are looking on us."

    Maryland is a southern colony settled by Lord Baltimore in 1632. He was a catholic who convinced king Charles the 1st to grant him about 100 million acres for persecuting Catholics to settle . Maryland was actually settled as a proprietary colony which means that the owner of the colony was the ruler, not the actual king or queen.
  • Rhode Island

    Rhode Island is a new England colony settled by Roger Williams and some of his supporters in 1635. Roger was banished from the Massachusetts bay colony for speaking out against the government authorities for punishing religious distension and against the confiscation of native Americans land.
  • Connecticut

    Connecticut was one of the few original 13 states and also one of the few new England colony as well. Connecticut lies on the northeastern corner of the united states. but it is also densely populated as well. it lies along the coast of the Atlantic ocean. Settled by Thomas Hooker in 1636

    Bacon's Rebellion started up when he tried to grab some of the native americans land but he was denied. he spent a lot of time and effort growing and leading groups of rebels in a nasty battle against Will Berkeley the colonial governor and didn't give up when forces started come from England but his men couldn't give up. notes

    Began in 1692, young girls claimed to be possessed by the devil and went after a women who was local of witchcraft. more than 150 people were imprisioned for witchcraft, 7 were in prison and 19 men and women were found guilty.

    in the early seventeenth century, there wasn't that much religious freedom at the time so some churches were separate and the state did not know that this happened. and the king was the head guy and didn't follow any directions what so ever and could have gotten in big trouble for that.

    Salutary Neglect was a policy of the British government at the time from the early to mid 18th century regarding the North American colonies because of some sort of trade going on at the time. The Salutary Neglect contributed some colonial and legislative institutions which lead to American independence.

    The Great Awakening was a religious revival that impacted the English colonies in america during the early 1700s. this sort of movement came at the time when the ideas were being thought of and different religions were growing but not in a good way. some christian leaders often traveled from place to place telling people about the gospel and emphasizing salvation from sins and promoting things for Christianity.

    Albany Plan was the plan place of the British colony. In 1774, his plan for the colonies was adopted by the Albany congress which was convened at the beginning of the french war and also included many representatives.

    Known as the seven year war. and this new world conflict marked another long struggle between British and France. when France expansion into the Ohio river, it brought back many conflicts with claims of the British colonies with many series of battles which lead into an official British declaration for a war in the year of 1756.

    was issued by the british at the end of the indian and French war because of people taking land. It also created a boundry between them two separating the british colony from the atlantic to the Appalachian mountians.
  • Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania was one of the original 13 colonies and was founded by William Penn. Pennsylvania was actually the very first site of the continental congress in the year 1774. It also made the deceleration of independence making America what it is today. notes
  • Great Migration

    It was relocated for over 6 million people because of the economy and the laws which made African Americans move northern so they can work and provide for them and their families. With this going on, African Americans began to build there own homes for themselves so they can have a regular life like every one else.
