Western Iran was invaded by Iraq because Saddam Hussein wanted control of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Fighting ended when the countries signed a formal peace agreement on August 16, 1990. -
Persian Gulf War
Iraq invaded Kuwait to obtain more access to th Persian Gulf's water supply. The U.S. was concerned about their oil supply and came to remove Iraqi forces. -
Afghanistan War
U.S. government thought the Taliban was allowing Osama bin Laden and his folowers hide in Afghanistan Mountains. They launched many attacks and the Taliban was defeated. -
Iraq War
The United Nations suspected that Iraq was hiding WMDs and providing aid to al-Qaeda. A military invasion was launched called "Operation Iraqi Freedom". -
U.S. Forces Stationed in Iraq
Citizens took vote to establish a new democratic government after Saddam Hussein's execution. U.S. forces were in Iraq to make sure the government was secure. In December 2011, the U.S. withdrew. -
Saddam Hussein Executed
Hussein Was captured in December of 2003. He was convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death in 2006. -
