Creation of isreal
In 1947 Britain announced that it was giving up control of the british mandate and turning the matter over to the United Nation. The UN proposed to partition, or divide, palestine into jewish state with jerusalem under international control. jewish leaders accepted the proposal, but the arab leaders rejected it. despite arab objections, te UN general Assembly passed a resolution supporting the partition as valid. -
Independence and war
As The British left palestine, David Ben-Gurion and the other Jewish Leaders declared the birth of the democratic State of Isrealon may14,1948. Ben-Gurion later became isreal's became isreal's first prime minister.
The day after isreal's declared it's independence, armies from the arab countries of Egypt, Syria, Lebenon, Transjordan, and iraq invaded isreal, launching the first arab-isreali war. the war lasted from may to december 1948. in the end, the arab armies were soundly defeated. -
