Conflict With Israel
Most Middle Eastern countries refused to recognize Israels right to exist. Countries have repeatedly attacked Israel to weaken the country and have lost giving Israel more land causing more conflict. -
Six Day War
Israel launched air strikes against Egypt, Syria and Jordan. This forced Israeli ground troops to move quickly and defeat Arab forces. -
Yom Kippur War
To get their land they lost from the Six Day War, Egypt and Syria launched the Yom Kippur War on Israel. Israel was surprised by the attack, but didn't have enough backing until they received help from the United States military. Egyptian and Syrian armies were forced to push back and both sides seized fire. -
Camp David Accords
No Arab countries were recognizing Israel as a nation until 1977 when Egyptian president wanted peace with Israel. U.S. president Jimmy Carter invited the prime minister Menachem Begin of Israel and Anwar Sadat of Egypt to Camp David. There, they signed the Camp David Accords which Egypt recognized Israel as a nation and in return Israel gave the Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt. -
Arabs and Palestine
Under the UN partition plan of 1947 there was supposed to be a Jewish and Arab state. However the land set aside for the Arabs was invaded by Jordan, Israel, and Egypt. The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) sought to destroy Israel and make it a Palestinian state. PLO made attacks on Israel and in return Israel invaded Lebanon to try to stop the attacks in 1978 and again in 1982.
