  • Six-Day War

    Six-Day War
    Israel took control of the Golan Heights, Senai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Israel gained control of land in the West Bank.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Yom Kippur War
    Egypt and Syria were determined to win territory back so they launched the Yom Kippur War. They planned a surprise attack against Israel in 1973.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    Egypt wanted peace with Israel. To help facilitate this peace US president Jimmy Carter invited Sadat and Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. In 1978 Sadat and Begin reached an agreement known as the Camp David Accords. The treaty ended 30 years of hostility between Egypt and Israel.
  • Intifada

    Intifada
    In 1987 Palestinian resentment of Israeli occupation boiled over into a rebellion called the Intifada. During the Intifada, Palestinian youths battled Israeli troops in widespread street violence.
  • Second Intifada

    Second Intifada
    In 2000 the second intifada began. This time Palestinian youths were joined by Palestinian security forces with guns. Hamas sent suicide bombers into Israel to attack civilians.
