Zionism, was created on August 29-31, 1897; is a nationalist movement and originally began to establish a Jewish State in Palestine now called Israel today. -
Aliyah Bet
Illegal Jewish immigration and insurgency started in 1933, although no one knows the exact date, at this time Jews from all around the world (especially from Europe) came to Palestine for refuge. The Zionists were demanding for an independent Jewish state and even waged a guerilla war against Great Britain ( which during the time controlled Palestine). -
The Holocaust
During World War II Adolf Hitler killed millions of Jews in Nazi Germany an era called the Holocaust which started on January 30, 1933 and ended on May 8, 1945. -
United Nations Partition Plan
After the Holocaust the international community felt sympathetic for the Jewish population, so in 1947 Britain announced that it was giving up Mandatory Palestine and is turning the matter to the United Nations. The UN proposed to a partition, to divide Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state with the city of Jerusalem under international control,however Jewish leaders accepted the offer but Arab leaders refused. Despite the Arabs' objection the United Nations passed the resolution as valid. -
Arab-Israeli Conflict
On May 15,1948 the Arab nations of Egypt,Iraq,Lebanon, Syria, and Transjordan declared war on Israel. Unfortunely this conflict still continues today.
