    Birth of Israel
    Britain gave up the mandate in 1947 and turned it over to the United Nations. The UN thought it was best to divide Palestine. Therefore, on May 14, 1948 the democratic State of Israel was born.
  • Shah returns

    Shah returns
    Mohammed Reza Pahlavi was the shah of Iran in 1941, but Mohammed Mosaddeq, the prime minister, was trying to reduce the Monarchy's power and soon enough forced officers loyal to the shah to leave. Mosaddeq didn't last long until he was overthrown and the shah ruled again. He began making many reforms and improving his nation's industry, education, and health care. Including for women.
  • Suez Crisis

    Due to that the United States and Britain did not lend money to Gamal Abdel Nasser so he can build a dam, Nasser took control of the Suez Canal. This angered Britain and France. Who, as well with Israel attacked Egypt. They defeated the Egyptian forces and occupied the Suez Canal. However, the U.S. pressured Britain, France, and Israel to withdraw and so they did. This event was particularly important for the arab people, Nasser was their hero.

    When Egypt began to close Israel's route to the Red Sea, they assumed there would be Arab attack, so they struck first. They struck towards Egypt, Syria, and Jordan. They defeated the Arab forces and as a result, they conquered the Golan Heights, Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
  • Intifada

    Intifada
    Palestine was not happy about the Israeli occupation and caused a rebellion. There was a widespread street violence and Palestenian youths would battle Israeli troops. Israeli defended themselves with their strong military and police resistance. However, the fighting didn't stop.
