The Six-Day War
In this war, Israel took control of the Golan Heights, Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Israel gained control of land in West Bank and Gaza with a large Palestinian population. -
The war in 1967
Israel launched air strikes against Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, destroying most of their airplanes on the ground. Israeli ground troops then moved in and rapidly defeated Arab forces, creating the Six-Day war. -
Yom Kippur War
Determined to win their territory back, Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel in 1973. The war takes its name from the jewish holy day when the attack began. -
A Peace Agreement
Until the late '70s no Arab nation recognized Israel's right to exist. then in 1977, Egypt's president made a important declaration: Egypt wanted peace with Israel. In 1978, Israel's prime minister reached an agreement called the Camp David Accords. Egypt recognized Israel and Israel returned to the Sinai Peninsula.
