End of British Mandate
After the holocaust had occurred, international communities were sympathetic to the Zionist movement. Britain gave up control of it's mandate and gave the matter to the United Nations. The United Nations decided to divide Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state with Jerusalem under international control. Jewish leaders accepted the proposal while Arab leaders rejected it - however the UN passed the proposal. -
Independence War
The day after Israel would announce itself as an independent state, armies from Arab countries - including Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan, and Iraq - invade Israel starting the first Arab-Israeli war. Lasted from May to December of 1948. The Arab states claim to be trying to 'save Palestine' from Zionists. -
Suez Crisis
Also known as the Kadesh Operation or Sinai War was an invasion of Egypt by Israel and eventually the United Kingdom and France. Israel pushed forces into the area after Egyptian President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, nationalized the canal. This event damaged relations with the United States. -
Six Day War
Third Arab-Israeli fought between Israel against Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Fought for 6 days - June 5th to June 10th in 1967. It was a decisive victory for Israel. -
Yom Kippur War
Also know as Ramadan War or October War Hebrew was fought between October 6th to October 26th of 1973. It was a victory for Israeli military however political gains were earned for both Egypt and Israel.
