  • Charlottetown Conference

    Charlottetown Conference
    -The conference was intended to discuss maritime interests.
    -Upper and Lower Canadaian Delegates requested an inuitation to speak about the possibillities of a union of the british North American colonies.
    -Lasted over a week.
    -Meeting of the leaders of the three maritime provinces.

    -John A Macdonald of Upper Canada favoured a legislative union.
    -People from Lower Canada insisted on control over language, religion and civil law.
    -Comprimising a federal system, so each province could have it's own in legislature, and powers were divided between the federal and provincial governments.
