2010s

  • Instagram

Instagram was made in 2010. Facebook bought it in 2012, and has been steadily growing since. I don't know if I would say its impact is positive because I am embarrassed to admit the hold that Instagram has on me.
  • Chromebook

The first Chromebook was created by Acer in 2011. Their impact has definitely been a big one for most of us late Gen Z people since they absolutely took over middle and high schools around 2013.
  • USB-C

Though invented in 2014, they have definitely started to grow in popularity in the past few years. Android made the switch over to primarily USB C a few years ago, but Apple is still holding on to their custom lightning port. The massive amount of different charger cables in the world have become some what of a problem, as they EU has proposed to make all of their items have a universal USB C port. This would help lower waste and relieve consumers of the confusion and frustration of chargers.
  • Air Pods

Some people think that Air Pods are stupid or overrated, though I heartily disagree. I'm not the biggest Apple fan, but their modern headphone design has always felt most comfortable in my ears compared to any type of buds. They easily started the trend of bringing simple wireless earbuds into the mainstream, and probably still practically own the market with Air Pods.
  • TikTok

Do I really need to state how TikTok has impacted popular culture? This short form video sharing app absolutely took the world by storm, and has been growing exponentially ever since. Reuploaded TikTok videos consume all other social media feeds. I think you either love TikTok, or you hate it.
