Gilles Gratton wore a mask that had a realistic tiger on it. The intet was to scare the other team and it did just that. -

Mike Richter of the New York Rangers is the first goalie to use a specific goaltender mask that cover the head and mouth with steel bars in front of the face. -
First Illegal Cage
Ty Conklin of the Edmonton Oilers uses the cateye cage to his advantage. The holes in the cage where his eyes are wwere so big you could fit a stick into it. The NHL then regulated a rule where all masks had to be checked over. -
First Carbon Fibre Mask Commercially Available
Bauer relaes the NME 10 mask. This mask has woven carbon fibre in it for shell integrity. The model also featured non vibrating tape used in airplanes.
