The CD-ROM was an invention by Philips which allowed for the storage of more data than standard 5" or 3.5" floppy disk. While it was not writable, it did deliver means to more easily distribute software. -
Microsoft Windows
Microsoft introduced the first graphic user interface based operating system. While it was still MS-DOS based start-up, later versions became what most of the world uses today for individual business and personal computing.
