The Complex Number Calculator (CNC) is finished.
In the Dartmouth college, Stibitz presented the Complex Number Calculator. It was during an American Mathematical Society conference. He impressed the people by doing calculations only on this machine. I chose this because it is considered to be the first demonstration of remote access computing. -
first look at the ENIAC
This machine was by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert. In Feb. the public got to see it for the first time. It began in 1943 was completed in 1946.
I chose this event because this machine improved by 1,000 times on the speed of any of the others made. -
Engineering Research Associates of Minneapolis built the ERA 1101,
This machine held 1 million bits on its magnetic drum and eventually was able to store as many as 4,000 words and could get any of the words in less than five-thousandths of a second.
I chose this event because it was the first commercially produced computer. -
Jay Forrester installed magnetic core memory
Foresster installed this memory into the Whirlwind computer in MIT.
This stayed popular until the 1970's when they made semiconductors. I chose this event because this made computers run so much faster, dependable, and easier to make. -
DEC's PDP was sold!
Out of the 50 of those that were built this one got sold for 120,000 dollars! The normal PDP-1 had a cathode ray tube graphic display. The hackers at the MiT were the writers of the first computerized game, Spacewar, I chose this because the hackers at the MIT were the ones who wrote the first computerized games and put this into all of the 50 computers. And out of all the PDP-1's this one got sold. -
Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp built the first standard metal oxide semiconductor product
This semiconduct product is for data processing applications and accumulator. I chose this event because Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp were the very first to make this. -
Researchers designed the Alto
The Alto was designed at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.
It was able to hold many files at once in windows, provided menus and icons. I chose this event because the Alto was the first work station with a mouse. -
new microprocessors were introduced
Intel and Zilog introduced the new microprocessors.
This was five times faster then its predecessors. The Zilog Z-80 had double the amount of built-in machine instructions and was able to run any program written for the 8080 I chose this event because it was important and improved the computer by being five times faster -
Thinking Machines is founded.
Thinking Machines Corporation was created by graduate student named Danny Hillis and some other people. His goal was to create a different type of supercomputer. The corporation created a couple larger computers with more powerful—the CM-2 and CM-5.
I chose this event because I feel like it opened more doors for oppurtunies for the computer and gave it potential to improv. even more -
The Pentium microprocessor is released.
It was the fifth generation of the ‘x86’ line of microprocessors from Intel. It showed a couple of advances that made programs run faster.
I chose this event because it made the computer much easier and more efficient.
