    Tomlinson utilized the use of the @ symbol to allow for communication between multiple computers because prior to that it was restricted to being on the same mainframe. Email has greatly benefited our society and is utilized in many different places, from just between friends, to threads between businesses!

    This was one of the first compact ways of storing data and was a predecessor to the USB that we use today. Some of the more expensive ones could only hold about 80 kilobytes, but they allowed for sharing of documents and data in a tangible way before the Cloud was commonplace.

    One of the first home computers, and was built my Wozniak as a way to show that people outside of manufacturing can build a computer at home themselves. This was the kickstart to Apple which is now one of the biggest tech companies to date.

    Inventor: U.S. Navy The full name of the acronym is Global Positioning System. This system was developed by the Navy as a way of tracking its forces and was debuted with the NAVSTAR satellite. Without this vital piece of technology, navigation in new places would be very difficult. GPS also helped in mapping out more areas that were unknown prior to this development.

    The development of the Walkman by Sony allowed consumers to enjoy music on to go without needing to be in a car or at home with a radio/record player. This invention paved the way for other forms of portable data like music, such as CDs and MP3s.
