Dated by 3500 BC, the stone features photo-cuneiform signs, basically rudimentary symbols that convey meaning through its pictorial resemblance to a physical object. Similar to this early form of writing are the ancient Egytian Hieroglphys, which dated back to around 3200 BC. -

Mesopotamian language
Written language appears to have come about around 1200 BC in China and around 600 BC in the Americas. Some similarities between the early Mesopotamian language and the one that developed in ancient Egypt suggest that some concept of a writing system originated in the middle east. -

Juan Pablo de Bonet published the first book that taught sign language to the deaf. His writings were based on the work of an Italian physician, Girolamo Cardano, who stated that hearing words were not necessary for understanding ideas. -
