  • Period: 12,000 BCE to 5500 BCE

    Paleo Indians

    The paleo Indians migrated to Colorado in search of food. They impacted Colorado by lowering animal population by hunting. The Paleos lived near the water because it made hunting easier and their resources were closer.
  • Period: 5500 BCE to 150 BCE

    Archaic Indians

    The Archaic Indians impacted Colorado’s history by Advancing in weapons and shelter. Archaic had to hunt more and more animals to have food for a longer periods of time. They used more materials during drought season because animals started disappearing.

    Native Utes

    The Native Utes impacted Colorado and it’s history by living in Colorado for one of the longest periods of time. They used resources to survive such as, animal hides to made shelters, clothes and blankets. The Utes changed the names of land and their own tribe name, the other tribes called them Utes but they called themselves Nuches.

    The Spanish explorers

    The Spanish explorers impacted Colorado by coming to Colorado, taking land that the native Utes and Arapahoe farmed and attacking tribes. The Spanish would enslave the natives and force them to do work. They changed America by bringing horses, pigs, sheep, cattle, and new food. They would also trade with the Indians. When the Spanish came to the new land they brought desseases which the natives have never been around and many of them died.

    Fur trappers and traders

    The fur trappers and traders impacted Colorado by starting something new. For trappers would trap animals and then eat the meat and sell the pelts. Many Indians believed that some fur traders and trappers would just kill animals for the pelts.

    Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians

    The Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians impacted Colorado’s history by using every part of the animal which the previous Indians did not. They fought over food and land with the Spanish. Many children were take in and put in boarding schools in the late 18 and 1900s.

    The Mexican-American War impact of Colorado’s history by allowing the USA to have more land. The USA fought for More land and got more. The Mexicans do not like that idea so they fought to keep the land.

    Placer Mining

    Placer Mining impacted Colorado by Finding something new. People first found gold in California and then I started searching everywhere. People first started panning for gold but then they got tired and they invented something called a sluice.People will travel all over the world to find gold in California.

    Lode Mining

    Lode mining Impacted Colorado by bringing back gold and trashing boomtowns. Boomtowns are places that people found lode gold quickly and became packed with people. Men and women first thought that placer gold was running out but men tried different stradigies and looked in different areas. More and more men and some women start searching in boomtowns but they wouldn’t pick up after themself or their animals.

    Settlers

    The settlers impacted Colorado by increasing the population of people living in Colorado. The men and women who came to Colorado wanted Colorado to be a territory. Sometime around 1860 the goverment counted approximately 34,277 people in Colorado.
  • Becoming a state

    When Colorado became a state many people were exited but before all that could happen the state leader had to write a constitution.
  • Women Suffrage

    Women were not allowed to vote in the early years of our country but a group of women changed that.

    Civil rights

    Back when Colorado first became a state things were not as equal as they are today. White Americans treated black Americans differently. When black African Americans fought back by protesting it was called the civil rights moment.

    I impacted Colorado by picking up trash. Picking up trash can make a big difference. Pollution is ruining the earth.
