Paleo Indians came to Colorado to find food. They left behind pottery, arrowheads, and dwellings. They were called hunter gatherers because they were on the move.

The Archaic Indians dug holes in the ground and made houses. They stayed in the same place to grow crops and hunt. They used an atlatl to hunt with greater force than a bow.

The Ute people used animal fur to make blankets. They call themselves Nuche. They used buffalo hides to make tipis.

The Spanish brought horses. They traded with them pigs and goods. But they took the land.

The Cheyynne cooked corn on an open fire. They would ride on a travois. Some Native children were sent to school.

Fur trading was the first industry in Colorado. The Mountain Men would trade pelts for money and guns and metal pots. Fur Trading changed american Indian culture and made it more wasteful.

Colorado was divided into four parts.(Utah, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Kansas).

Settlers lived in Colorado in the 1850s. The school had one room and everything was made out of wood. Some kids had to ride a horse to school.

Placer mining impacted Colorado by bringing lots of new people. Russell found gold in cherry creek and Denver was built around the same area. Russell brought the gold rush to Colorado.

Lode Mining took much more effort and money than placer mining. It brought thousands of people to Colorado. Lode mining used explosives to blow up the rock and they dug deeper and it took place in the mountains.

African Americans and white people were segregated until this movement. Polly Baca was a Colorado state senator that helped Hispanic people. Rachel Noel was a black member of the Denver school board and she worked on desegregation in Colorado schools.
