There had been ongoing tension between Boston population and the soldiers, when a mob formed around a British sentry, who was known for verbal abuse and harrasment. He eventually was supported by eight other British soldiers who fired in to the crowd without orders, instantly killing three civilian men.

    This speech is best known by the quote "Give me liberty or give me death!" This speech was given by Patrick Henry or March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia to try and convince the Virgina House of Burgesses to pass a resolution delivering Virginia troops to the Revolutionary War. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were at the church to hear the speech.
