Chinese Fleet
"Admiral Zheng He, we have had a sighting of land! Aboard ship. My crew and I have landed on an unknown land and are staying for a few days. We had to bring lots of supplies to keep us healthy. We are not here for the land though, we are here for the valubles. -
Dirk Hagot
My name is Dirk Hartog and I am a 17th century Dutch explorer. My crew and I were the second European crew to land on Australian land.I was also the first person to leave behind an artifact, the Hartog plate. -
William Dampier
My name is William Dampier and I was the first Englishman to explore parts of Australia. I was also the first person to travel around the world three times. I died in March, 1715. -
The First Fleet
The First Fleet came to Australia on 11 ships which were lead by Captain Arthur Phillip. Six of the ships transported convicts, two ships were navy ships and three transported supplies. Although most people were British, there were also African, American and French convicts. Many convicts were sick or malnourished before they bordered the ship. After a voyage of three months the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay on 26th of January, 1788. Now we celebrate Australia day on that date. -
Captian Arthur Phillip
"Aboard ship". I am captian Arthur Phillip and I got choosen to sail the ships to New Holland. When we got there it took seven days to find a good place to anchor. I planted a British flag and called the place Sydney cove. -
Convicts
I am a 13 year old girl who lives in Britain. I don't get payed very much so I stole some clothes and tried to sell them. I got caught and got put in jail. I was hungry and unwanted. I was sentenced to transportation to one of Britains colonies. Mayby this will be a new beginning and a better life for me. -
Aboriginals
I am an Indigenous women that live on this land. My ancestors have been living on this land for over 40,000 years and these people that just arrived have claimed the land for themselves. They are treating us like plants and disrespecting us. I don’t know how our living conditions are going to be like now. -
Fedderation of Australia
Back in the 1900s Australia was just the name of a continent divided into six very different British colonies. The colonies had different leaders and different laws. Henry Parks (5 time premiere of New South Wales) wanted Australia to unite as one. He convinced the leaders of each state to come together but it wasn’t a great time for it though. Soon later all the states except WA agreed to become part of a country. The first premier was Edmund Barton who helped write the new constitution. -
Australian Womans Perspective
I am on a long tiring trip to Sydney on a train. I have to take two trains to get there because the train tracks are different widths. I have to show my immigration papers and they seach my bags. I didn't realize that taking a train to another state was going to be like going to another country. -
Henry Parks Perspective
I my opinion I think that Australia should unite as one. I made a speech in 1899 about how Australia should come together as one and convinced the leaders to come together and discuss this topic. It didn’t work. Eventually it happened and the divided country became one. -
Aboriginals Perspective
It might be good for Australian people that Australia has become one country but for us Aboriginal and Torre strait islanders it’s not that great. In the new constitution we are counted as flora and fauna (plants). It is just not fair. We are people just like everyone else and we deserve more respect. -
Australian Soliders Perspective
I am ready for an adventure. I have signed up to join the army to fight in Turkey. I am sixteen and I had to fake my age to get into the army. I have to leave my family behind and I might not see them ever again but I am proud to serve my country. -
World war 1
World war 1 was a tragic time. Many men volunteered to go to war because they thought it was going to be an adventure. Many men died and never returned to their loved ones. They went to war because Australia is Britain's’ allies and Turkey bombed their country so Australian troops had to travel to Gallipoli to fight back. Women had to take over men's jobs while they were at war like working in a factory. -
Women's Perspective
My husband has volunteered to go to war in Gallipoli and fight for our country. I am very sad and depressed that he is going to war. He might not ever return. Most men are going to war so women have to take over their jobs like working in a factory. We have to do this because if we don’t we won’t earn money to buy food and other things that we need. -
Turkish Perspective
I am a part of the Turkish army. Three weeks ago we bombed Britain so we are on the lookout twenty-four seven for any signs of boats because Britain has allies and they might be coming to make things even. -
World War Two
On the third of September, 1939 Prime Minister Robert Gordon Menzies announced the beginning of Australia's involvement in the Second World War on every national radio station in Australia. Approximately a million Australian men and women served in the Second World War 2. They fought in campaigns against Germany and Italy in Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa as well as against Japan in south-east Asia and other parts of the Pacific. -
Aboriginals Perspective
Today we have a better life in Australia, we are treated like people not plants. In 2009 Kevin Rudd made a speech to say sorry to the Aboriginals for the way we were treated in previous years. -
Queen's Perspective
England has many connections with Australia. I am the head of the commonwealth and Australia is part of the commonwealth which means that I am the head of Australia. Both countries speak english too. -
Today
Our connection with Britain is still ongoing. Some connections with Britain is Australia is part of the commonwealth ruled by the queen, we participate in the Commonwealth games, we speak the same language and the Queen is at the back of our Australian coins. -
Immigrant's Perspective
I am an Italian immigrant and I came to Australia with my parents when I was five. I have been living here for fifty-five years now and it has changed my life. Australia is a great country to live in and i’m never leaving.
