Inquiry Task Colonisation
This term we had to learn about colonisation. Their were 4 main points, we had to talk about. They were colonisation of Australia, Australian federations, world war 1 and what it is like today. -
Captain Cook Australia
Captain Cook landed on the South East coast of Australia. He named New South Wales, Botany Bay. Captain Cook was the first to land somewhere in Australia. Before it was called Australia they named it New Holland. -

It is very rough here at sea. It took a long time but made it to my destination. We hit land, it was dry and it looked like know one lived there. I knew it was somewhere in Australia but I don't know where. I saw no one so I named it myself… New Holland. -

It's such hard work keeping the ship in well use. I havwe to clean the ship, pull the ropes to keep it on water and sometimes help cook some disgusting dinner for us and the convicts. -

It's cold, it's wet I feel sick and to want to go home. We have hardly any food and when we get it, it is horrible! I wish I never took that loaf of bread because then I wouldn't be here. -

Australia became an independent on 1st of January 1901. They came an independent country because Australia became an independent nation on 1 January 1901 when the British Parliament passed legislation. -
First Fleet- Captain Arthor Phillips
"Aboard ship". I am Captain Arthur Phillip and I got chosen to sail the ships to New Holland. When we got there it took seven days to find a good place to keep safe. A few days later I planted the British flaf and named the place around me Sydney Cove. -

I am an Indigenous women that live on this land. I have been living on this land for over 40,000 years and these people that just arrived have claimed the land for themselves. They are treating us like plants and disrespecting us. I don’t know how our living conditions are going to be like now. -
First Fleet Arrival- Convicts
I am a 13 year old girl who lives in Britain. I don't get payed very much so I stole some clothes and tried to sell them. I was hungry and unwanted. Jail was so crouded I had no room for myself. The guards decided to sail and find a place to put all of us in. They found a place and claimed it for Britian. -
Federation- Henry Parkes
I my opinion I think that Australia should unite as one. I made a speech in 1899 about how Australia should come together as one and convinced the leaders to come together and discuss this topic. It didn’t work. Eventually it happened and the divided country became one. -

Australia became an independent on 1st of January 1901. They came an independent country because Australia became an independent nation on 1 January 1901 when the British Parliament passed legislation. -

It might be good for Australian people that Australia has become one country but for us Aboriginal and Torre strait islanders it’s not that great. In the new constitution we are counted as flora and fauna (plants). It is just not fair. We are people just like everyone else and we deserve more respect. -
World War 1- Australian Kid
I am ready for an adventure. I have signed up to join the army to fight in Turkey. I am sixteen and I had to fake my age to get into the army. I have to leave my family behind and I might not see them ever again but I am proud to serve my country. -

I am a part of the Turkish army. Three weeks ago we bombed Britain so we are on the lookout twenty-four seven for any signs of boats because Britain has allies and they might be coming to make things even. -

In world war 1, 1915 Australia came to help the English men. Australia joined in 1916 and Australia's population went down since a lot of young men died. Now Australia only has 23.13 million (2013)people who are living in Australia. We would have more but lots of them died saving our lives and homes. -
World War 1- Wife
My husband has volunteered to go to war in Gallipoli and fight for our country. I am very sad and depressed that he is going to war. He might not ever return. Most men are going to war so women have to take over their jobs like working in a factory. We have to do this because if we don’t we won’t earn money to buy food and other things that we need. -
Today
Today we are a happier and safer country because of colonization and our soldiers. Now we have lots of sport, money, our relationship with Britain is great, tourism, language, food, commonwealth games. -
Today- Aboriginals
Today we have a better life in Australia, we are treated like people not plants. In 2009 Kevin Rudd made a speech to say sorry to the Aboriginals for the way we were treated in previous years. -
Today- Tony Abbott
With what Australia has gone through it is so much better having so many more colonies on our side. As prime minister I want to improve this country forever so that when I am not prime minister it will feel like a better place. -
Today- Queen
England has many connections with Australia. I am the head of the commonwealth and Australia is part of the commonwealth which means that I am the head of Australia. Both countries speak english too. Now we are colonies to each other
