  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Was fought over the control of land in Ohio. The two sides were Britan and New France, along with various Indian allies. Britan won the war, but spent alot of money in the procees, so Britan had to start taxing the colonies. This was the begining of the colonies anger twords Great Britan
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This was a tax that states colonists must pay a direct tax on sugar, molassas, and syrups. It was created by the king to attempt to decrease debt from the war, and to adress the smuggling of sugar in the colonies. It made the colonists upset, and they began to boycott British goods.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act was placed upon the colonists that caused them to pay taxes on anything involving paper: Newspapers, documents, letters, etc. The money went twords defending the colonies,but they were still very upset by it, and continued to boycott.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea act was the last straw, or the last act before the colonists revolted. It caused a tax on tea, and made the colonists only able to buy tea from the government. The purpose of this tax was not in any way benifiting the colonists, but to "bail out the floundering East India Company, a key actor in the British Economy" This angered colonists extremly.

    The Boston tea Party Was the first act of violence on the colonies part twords Britan. They were upset about the cost of tea. They boarded ships carrying tea disguised as indians, and threw tea overboard. It was a protest by The Sons Of Liberty.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    This Act was the Kings reaction to the boston Tea party. It was his punishment to them for what they did. It closed Bostonds Port until they paid for all the tea that was lost in The Boston Tea Party. Te colonists found this extremely unfair, because they were deprived of the use of their ports...could not trade.

    The Massachusetts government act was also a result of the Boston Tea party. It mad it so there could be no town meetings, and there could be no one from the town in charge. It placed an official from the king in charge. The colnists Thought that this was very unfair to heve their government taken away. This was where some of them, in both Boston and other colonies no longer wanted to deal with Britan.

    The Decleration of Independence was essentially a letter to King George from the colonists. It said all the injustices theat were done to them, and explained why they wanted to break apart and seek independence.

    The Battle of Saratoga is sometimes called The turning point of the war,because it was one of the first major wins by the amrericans. The British went from 7,200 soilders to 6,600. It boosted American confidence, and shook the british up. also, This was when the French agreed to be allies with the colonies,which allowed them to win further wars.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This was the last Battle of the war. The Americans surronded Yorktown, and the British were supised, traped, and had nowhere to go. It lasted from Sep.28 to Oct.19. British lost 309 men, and they finally surrended. Americans Won!!
