John Calvin publishes Institutes of the Christian Religion
Instituted the idea of Predestination (God knows where you are going before you are even born). Anne Hutchinson spoke out against this ideology by telling the clergy members that if this way true there would be no piont in following any of God's commandments and that you could do what ever you wanted to in life. -
Pilgrims sail on the Mayflower to the New World
Escaping religious persecution, Pilgrims set sail and landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620. During the first winter 52 of the original 102 colonists died on malnutrition and disease. -
Dutch Found New Netherland
New Netherland beacme a small farming and timber colony. Eventually the world renowned Dutch Banking system would make its way to the collonies and plant the seeds for the future banking mecca of New York City. -
Puritians found Massachusetts Bay Colony
The Massachusets colony grew to become one of the most influencial collonies in the North. Puritan ideals even early on were strictly against slavery. -
Roger Williams convicted of heresy and founds Rhode Island Colony
Rhode Island was established as a collony for all those who were outcast of the other collonies, -
Pequot War
A war between Pequot Indians and The Massachusetts Bay collony and their native American allies. -
Anne Hutchinson banished from Massachusetts colony
She would make her way to Rhode Island with all of the other outcasts of the New England colonies. -
Connecticut and New Haven Colonies Found
These collonies would become pivital players in the formation of a powerful New England. -
Connecticut's Fundamental Orders drafted
Organized the structure of the Government of the Connecticut colony. -
English Civil War Begins
The War was fought because of the Religiouse tencions in England between Protistants and Catholics. -
New England Confederation formed
An allaince of the New England collonies to make them unified and strong in a time of war, this would come in handy when it was time for the revolution. -
English Civil War Ends
Started in 1642, eventually led to the monarchy being overthrown for a time being and brought William Cromwell into power. -
William Bradford completes Of Plymouth Plantation
This revealed much of what historians rely on as the realities on colonial life. -
New Netherland Conquers New Sweden
This led to the growth of New Nethrland in the America's. Eventualy though the English would claim this territory with all of New Netherland when they captured them. -
East and West Jersey Formed
What would eventually become New Jersey and another colony that wpuld go on to play a pivotal role in the fight for independence. -
England seizes New Netherland from the Dutch
This would result in the future growth of the colony of New York. -
English capture New Netherlands
With another port city added to the English colonies, England gained ecconomic strength and many river side estates followed. -
King Phillip's War
The War was fought bettween the collonists and native peoples of Southern New England. King Philip was actually the name given to the Native American chief fighting the colonists. His actual name was Metacom. It was the last major attemp by Native Americans to drive out settelers. -
William Penn founds Pennsylvania
He was a real-estate entrepreneur, and a younger son in England so he had to be ambitiouse because he was granted no inheritance. -
Royal Authority creates Dominion of New England
This charter reinforced Englands hold on the colonies. -
Glorious Revolution
Stuarts and Dominion of New England are overthrown.
