    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    Document put into place by King John due to a political crisis. This document would subject that everyone, including him, was subject to the law.
  • Jamestown Settled

    Jamestown Settled
    King James the 1st sponsored a journey of 144 men on three ships to sail to Northeast America. Through the London Company, the group sailed and laned by James river and settled the first permanent colony in North America.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    Document siged on the ship of the Mayflower before it landed in Plymouth. It was the first piece of framework for the government and comfirmed and enacted the territoy of the US.
  • Petition of Right

    Petition of Right
    Declaration made by parliment under the reigh of Charles the first. It granted rights that were deemed neccesary to its citizens. It was most important under the Magna Carta.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    British Law passed by parliment that applied to citizens in England as well as those settling in the colonies. It also established a constitutional monarchy in Britain.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    A plan to unite the first colonies under a single government. This was not intended for independence from Britain, but just to have a central government for the AMerican colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    First attempt to raise taxes by Britain Parliment in the colonies. This included papers, newspapers, pamphlets, cards and dice. Led to amount of huge protest by colonists including them burning all of their stamps.
  • American Revolution begins

    American Revolution begins
    Colonists were upsets with all of the taxes being placed on them such as the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act. It began in Massachusetts and was against Britain and the colonies in the start.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Deadly riot that started between colonists and a single British soldier but escalated into many more people. It was due to the high amount of taxes and it paved way for the war to start.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A political protest led by colonists who were once again angry about taxes. This cna be affiliated with the phrase "taxation without representation". In response they dumbed 342 chests of British imported tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Laws passed by Britain to punish colonists in response to the Boston Tea Party. It took away opportunities to self govern, which made the colonists even more mad.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Delegates sent by every colony except Georgia met in Pennsylvania. The goal was to show a combined authority against Great Britain. Their colonial rights were discussed.
  • Second Continetal Congress

    Second Continetal Congress
    Meeting of delagates from 12/13 colonies in response to the Revolutionary War. This was to discuss strategy and tactics.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Document created by the US colonies that declared their independence from Britain. It was adapted by the Second Continental congress and was a unaminous decision.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    First written constitution of the United States. It gave the territory the name of "The United States of America" and claimed the land as sovereign and idependent.
  • Shay's Rebllion

    Shay's Rebllion
    Band of farmers attacking courthouses and government agencies. This was in response to the amount of foreclosures happening on properties.
  • Philadelphia Convention

    Philadelphia Convention
    Also known as the Constitutional Convetion, but was held in Philadelphia. There were different goals, some wnted to revise the current Articles of Confederation but some wanted a complete new government. It resulted in the creation of the Constitution.
  • Conneticut Compromise

    Conneticut Compromise
    In respons to the New Jersey and Virginia plans, this compromis was made. It states that in COngress, there will be an equal amount of members in the senate (2) for each state and there will be a number of representatives in the House based of the population of the state.
