  • Founding of Jamestown

    Founding of Jamestown
    In 1606 King James I granted a charter to the Virginia Company, to establish an English settlement in the Chesapeake region of North America.   • Founding of Quebec

  • Tobacco

    John Winthrop
    Massachusetts Bay Colony is founded by John Winthrop and it becomes the biggest and most successful colony in North America thus far.
  • Boston Latin School

    Boston Latin School
    First public school in America established, the Boston Latin School. It was funded by the townspeople, and this is significant because it was one of the first type of town regulated tax.
  • Rhode Island Colony

    Roger Williams forms colony in Rhode Island after being kicked out of the puritan colony in Boston.
  • Fundamental Orders

    A lawyer named Roger Mudlow created the first constitution in America which was called the Fundamental Orders and it is adopted by Connecticut.   • Navigation Act

    The Navigation Acts made it so the colonies could trade with only England. contributed to rising anti-British sentiment (which would help build cause for revolution).

    Quakers expelled from Massachusetts and then settle in Pennsylvania.
  • Slavery

    Slavery
    English monarch Charles II created the Royal African Company to trade in African goods including people. More Native Africans would be coming to the country.
  • William Penn
