  • Roanoke

    Roanoke
    Roanoke was the first English colony to settle in present day North Carolina. The people of Roanoke struggled to survive from the harsh conditions, lack of supplies, and there bad relationship with the native people. The Roanoke colony is known as the lost colony. John white left the colony to get supplies for the colony in hope it will help them survive. When John White came back to Roanoke it was abandoned with nothing but writing on a near by tree.   • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    Jamestown was the first English colony that survived in the new world. About 100 colonist came to Jamestown for a new life. The colonist landed in the worst time of the year, the harsh winters. The people of Jamestown went through the starving times were over a 100 of them died. Death was so common in Jamestown at this point the people weren't even affected by it. The only reason Jamestown survived is that the Native Americans taught them new kills and ways to get food and shelter. history.com

    House of Burgesses
    The House of Burgesses was the first legislature made up of elected representatives. The house was made up of 22 members and this meeting took place in James town Virginia. To be able to be part of the house you had to be over 21, a man, own a specific amount of land, white, and be apart of the king's religion.     The Great Migration
    During the Great Puritan Migration large groups of Puritans from England migrated to new England, Chesapeake bay, and the West Indies. Around 21,000 people left for a new life in the new world.   • Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower compact

    Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower compact
    The Mayflower had about 100 passengers and 35 pilgrims on board. Before they were allowed on the ship all passengers had to sign the Mayflower compact. The Mayflower compact established the foundation for the colony's government. It was the first government made for the colony's. After a long 65 days at sea the Mayflower set there anchor down at Cape Cod. The pilgrims struggled at first because they landed during the harsh winters but were saved by Squanto and his tribe. -Packet

    New York was a middle colony and settled by the Dutch. The Dutch originally called New York the New Netherlands but was eventually renamed The Duke of New York by King Charles the second. The British took control of the colony but the Dutch were still able to keep there land. In 1673 the Dutch were sick of the British and recaptured New York but again lost control quickly to the British. -Packet

    Massachusetts Bay Colony
    The Massachusetts Bay Colony was settled by the puritans and were led by Governor John Winthrop. John Winthrop had the famous quote of "We shall be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of the people are on us." The laws for the colony were all based on the puritans religion and there beliefs. No colony is perfect though so there were some dissenters in the colony. These people didn't follow the laws and were punished with fines, public humiliation, execution, and even banishment. Cited- Packet

    Maryland was a southern colony settled by Lord Baltimore. Lord Baltimore talked with King Charles the first and convinced him to have 100 million acres of land for the Catholics to settle. Before Lord Baltimore was able to do anything with the land and make it a safe for the Catholics to settle there he died and his son took over. His son gave away 100 acres to every married couple and the land quickly became mostly protestants. -Packets

    Rhode Island is a New England colony and was settled by Roger Williams. Even though Roger Williams settled here he was later banished from the colony for speaking out against government authorities. He also was banished for punishing religious dissention and against the confiscation of Native Americans land. -Packet

    Connecticut was a New England colony settled by Thomas Hooker. John Locke wrote the Fundamental orders of Connecticut which was the first written constitution in all of North America. This document allowed men to vote and run for office. This order later set the government for Connecticut later in time. Connecticut was based off of land ownership and not religion.     The Maryland Toleration Act was an act passed to protect the Christens in Maryland. The reason why they created this act was because the Puritans and Protestants out numbered the Christens and the people wanted to ensure that they had liberty to be a Christen.   • Carolina

    Carolina
    Carolina was a southern colony settled by the supports of King Charles the second. Carolina was were most cash crops grew. The people or Carolina grew cash crops like rice, indigo, and tobacco. These crops were grown for the purpose of selling and selling only. The only problem with these cash crops were that they required a huge labor force. This meant that more slaves were brought here to work the fields. -Packet

    Bacons rebellion
    Nathaniel Bacon got together a team of men to execute his plan of burning down James town. Some believe that Bacon wanted to do this because he had a personal vendetta against the Governor William Berkeley. Bacon and his men burned and attacked James town making it the first colonial rebellion against royal control. Bacon died during the attack and the rest of his men were hung after the attack.   • Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania
    Pennsylvania is a middle colony settled by William Penn. The year before William Penn convinced and was granted a charter for Pennsylvania from King Charles the second. William Penn made the colony a holy experiment. This meant every man was granted 50 acres and the right to vote. Later Penn became a Quaker, meaning they believed God existed in every human.     The Salutary was when the British had an unofficial policy in the colonies. This policy was "an intentional lack of enforcement by the British government of British trade laws in the American colonies."   • Salem witch trials

    Salem witch trials
    The Salem witch trails were when the people of Salem all accused each other of being a witch. They all claimed to be possessed by the devil and for using witchcraft. There were 150 people imprisoned, 7 died in prisoned, and 19 hung all because they were rumored to be a witch. Historian's believe that the town had a mass hysteria making people believe witches were real. This mass hysteria was believed to have ended September 1692 when people started going against the trails. Cited- Packet.

    Great Awakening/ Enlightenment
    The Great Awakening was a time were Jonathan Edwards and others preached to the people fell out of faith. Jonathan Edwards wrote a now famous sermon called Sinners in the hands of a angry God. The Goal of these preachers were to scare people back into faith by telling there scary stories about what God will do to them if they don't believe. Some historians today believe that the Great Awakening lead to the Revolutionary War because this was teaching people there rights and freedoms. History.com

    The Albany Plan was to have a unofficial government with 13 colonies. The leader of this plan was Benjamin Franklin who was one of the leaders in the founding of America. He was also a senior leader since age 48 and was a delegate from Pennsylvania. This plan later lead to the French and Indian War were they wanted freedom from the British.   • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War lasted 7 long years. This war was obviously against the French and the Indians but what you probably didn't know was that the war was made up of many battles. One of the bigger battles was the battle of Quebec where the French lost there Canadian fort. Because of this Spain joined the French in battle. The thing to finally end the war was the The Treaty of Paris which gave The French Florida and the British Canada. History.com
  • Proclamation of 1762

    Proclamation of 1762
    The Proclamation of 1762 was written by the British at the end of the French and Indian War. This was written so that the Europeans wouldn't be allowed to settle on any more of the Native Americans' lands, specifically, anything past the Appalachian Mountains. This meant all Native American land past that point was now off limits completely to settlers and any trading or buying of land from Native Americans was also forbid. Cited- History.com
