In 1585 Queen Elizabeth gave a contract to Sir Walter Raleigh to sail west. He later arrived in present-day North Carolina and established a colony there that ata the time was called Roanoake. -
The separatist's/pilgrims set sail on the Mayflower.
In 1602 the separatists set sail on the Mayflower. They came from England but fleed from there to escape religious prosecution and later arrived in the colony by the name of Plymouth. -
John Smith sailed to Jamestown to expand England's territory and find gold and riches.
In 1607 John Smith set sail from England to expand the English territory and to find gold. He later arrived in Jamestown. He did not end up finding any gold but did claim that land for England. -
The first pilgrims landed in Cape Cod to escape religious prosecution.
In 1620 the first group of pilgrims arrived in England for religious freedom as they had fled from England because the English church did not give them the right to religious freedom and they were going to be prosecuted. When they arrived they established a colony called cape cod in present-day Massachusetts. -
The puritans were given a charter from the king to sail west.
In 1629 the Puritans were given a charter from the king to sail west. The Puritans had different beliefs from the English church which back then was not allowed you could be prosecuted for this but, the Puritans agreed to be given a charter to establish their own colony with their own beliefs rather than be prosecuted. -
The puritans landed in Boston, Massachusetts to escape religious prosecution.
In 1630 after a long, hard journey The puritans finally had made it. They landed in present-day Boston, Massachusetts. They had started a colony that was called Plymouth. The Puritans created this colony so they could have religious freedom from the English church. -
Roger Williams broke off from the puritan group and fled the Massachusetts bay colony.
Roger Williams was a part of the Puritan group, the Puritans were very strict with their laws much like the English church. Roger Williams disagreed with their laws and was going to be prosecuted for his religious beliefs but, instead of being prosecuted in 1636 Roger Williams broke off from the Puritan group looking to move to somewhere where he could have whatever religious beliefs he wanted to have without being prosecuted for it. -
Thomas Hooker led his followers west and south to the rich soils of Connecticut valley because the puritan leaders were going to put him on trial.
Thomas Hooker much like Roger Williams disagreed with the Puritan's religious beliefs. Thomas Hooker believed in things that the Puritans disagreed with which led to him being put on trial. Many others were like him but didn't speak up about it as he did and from that, he had gained a following. In 1636 right before being put on trial he escaped the Puritans with his followers and led them to the rich soils of Connecticut. -
The Paqot War started.
We all know that the Native Americans lived in the 13 colonies long before they were even the 13 colonies but, when the Europeans came to the present-day United States to claim new land and find treasure they ran into the Natives and one of two things happened one being they made a peace treaty with the Natives and they helped each other out, the other being that they were greedy for control and wanted nothing to do with the natives which later (in 1637) led to the Paqot War. -
Anne Hutchinson and her followers formed the settlement of Portsmouth in Rhode Island.
Anne Hutchinson was part of the Puritans which we know had very strict laws and very specific beliefs and if anyone wanted to believe anything other than that they would be put on trial. Anne Hutchinson disagreed with a few laws but when she had spoken with the Puritan leaders about this but they had disagreed and we're going to put her on trial for this. Instead, of being put on trial in 1638 she and her followers to form a new settlement that was later called Portsmouth.
