Roanoke
115 English settlers arrived on Roanoke Island off what is now North Carolina. Later in the year John White was sent together fresh supplies. He ended up being caught up in a naval war between England and Spain. When he returned to the colony where his wife and daughter ( first English child born in America) resigned he found no trace of people living there.The only clue was the word Croataon carved on a tree.

Jamestown
100 members from the Virginia Company and founded the first permanent settlement for the English. Within the first two years lots of settlers died from famine, disease, and conflict with other tribes. The top export of Jamestown was Tobacco. Soon after a period of peace was a marriage with a colonist, John Rolfe and and Pocahontas the daughter of Algonquian Chief. Salutary of Neglect
Salutary of Neglect is when the British government regarded its North American Colonies under the trade regulations for all the colonies were enforced and supervision of inside affairs was loose as long as the colonies remained loyal to the British government and participated in their economy. This contributed to increasing to autonomy of coloinal legal and legistartive instituions which led to the American Independence.

House of Burgesses
A group of representatives assembled in colonial Virginia with idea of electing a govern body will in British possession. Two elected burgesses were taken from each eleven colonies. They started to meet in Jamestown then moved to Williamsburg (capital of colonial Virginia). The House became a separate chamber, had a right of veto/revision, and sat as the supreme court till the Revolution.

Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was basically a list of rules for the new settlers who were supposed to land in Virginia but ended up in Massachusetts instead. There were a one hundred a on two passengers on the Mayflower and they were all separatists seeking religious freedom.

New York
The Dutch first settled along the Hudson then two years later settled the colony of New Amsterdam and Manhattan. The English soon took over control of the area and named it New York. Millions of immigrants arrived in New York Harbor and went through Ellis island to get their citizenship for America. The Puritan Great Migration
The Puritans left England for economic and religion persecution. There were two types of Puritans the separatists and the non-separatists. Massachusetts Bay Colony
A group of a one thousand puritan refugees settled in what is now Massachusetts under Governor John Winthrop and Deputy Governor Thomas Dudley. They soon received a charter from Charles I letting the company trade and colonize in New England between the Charles and Merrimack rivers. The reason was to create a commercial company with what in what would now be called stockholders, officers, and directors.

Maryland
The Colony of Maryland was founded by by George Calvert and Lord Baltimore. The major industries are ship building, iron works, and agriculture. The climate was always warm so winters were not diffcult to survive because the awrm weather was perfect for farming. The colonies of the South had the biggest population of slaves that were used for labor.

Connecticut
Connecticut was founded by Thomas Hooker and others in 1636. The major industry (agriculture) consisted of wheat, corn and fishing. Their government was based on the people making the colony of Connecticut one of the first to have a constitution/fundamental orders. Rhode Island
Rhode Island (a charter colony) was a New England colony until it joined the thirteen colonies in 1776. The colony was founded by Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson. The area had rolling hills and low lands the climate was very compared to other three regions. Their biggest industry was Agriculture but the also had breweries producing rum. The industries they worked on were ship building and exporting rum.

Maryland Toleration Act
The Toleration Act of 1649 granted religious freedom to all christains living in Maryland. Basically anyone could not use blaspheme with God, Virgin Mary, and the apostles. You could not make fun of another religion and it provided for the Sabbath. George Calvert was the governor of Maryland when the Toleration Act occured but shortly after he passed away so his son Cecil took over his postion and ruled.

Pennsylvania
Pennslyvania was founded by William Penn as a safe place for his fellow Quakers. Philidelphia was alo the site of the First Continental Congress whcih later on would produce the idea for the Decleration of Independence and started the American Revolution. After Pennsylvania became the second state it became the site of the Battle of Gettysberg which brought an end to the Confederacy's North Invasion.

Carolina
King Charles II granted eight supporters land in the Carolinas. They had easy access to the trade in the West Indies people could then settle to grow cash crops like rice, indigo, and tabacco. Cash crops were grown for the purpose of selling rather than being grown just for the farmer just to use fopr personal use. Most of the crops required a huge labor force. In 1720 African slaves outnumbered European settlers in the Carolinas. Carolina then became a royal colony and was split.Notes -
Bacon's Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon led his men to burn down Jamestown which was the busting capital of Virginia. A war was fought against William Berkley. Forces from England were coming to take him and his men down so they hide in the woods till the real fight happened. The rebellion he had started quickly started to fall a apart. Salem Witch Trails
In Salem Village, Massachusetts a group of girls were accused of preforming witch craft and possessed by the devil. Everyone than began to freak out and soon trials were held against several woman to hear their cases. The first victim was hanged while men, women, and children were accused over the next couple of months. Great Awakening/Enlightment
The Great Awakening/Enlightment was a religious movement due to the idea of secular rationalism being emphasized. Christains leaders often traveled to differenty towns to preach the word of God. The precahers begun to modify their message more towards the teaching of how it is important to have scripture/faith in your life because the attendance and services got lower and lower. Jonathan Edwards was big leader in this.

Albany Plan
The Albany plan was the first plan to organize the colonies under one government. The colonial governments all sent commissioners to the Congress. The delegates met to discuss intercolonial cooperation on other things. They had to begin cooperating because the French and Indian War was starting.

French-Indian War
When France expanded into Ohio's territory the conflict started with the British. At peace conference the British received the territories of Canada from France and Florida from Spain that opened the Mississippi Valley. The French defeated the young George Washington.

Proclamation of 1763
When the Treaty of Paris was singed after the French and Indian War ended. Which gave Britain a lot of good land in the North but alos lead to a lot of problems. The territory was named Ohio Valley which was west of the Applalacian Mountains. The British told the Americans to stay away from the land and do not settle in it. The Native Americans that already lived their had allied themselves whith the French during the Seven Years War.
