King James the First of England issued the First Virginia Charter. This created the Virginia Company. It also authorized eight men to colonize Virginia. -

John Winthrop led 700 passengers to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This led to the migration of thousands of English people to the Americas. -
Culpeper's Rebellion
John Culpeper led a rebellion against the colonial government in Carolina. The rebellion succeeded in disposing of the governor and placing Culpeper in his position. -
Formation of New England
KIng James II combines the colonies of Connecticut, Massachusetts BAy Colony, Plymouth, Rhode Island, New York, New Hampshire, East Jersey, and West Jersey into a single colony. The colony is called The Dominion of New England. -
The Great Awakening
This was a time of revival. It took place through widespread movement of Christian sermons and church meetings. -
King George's War
This was part of the French and Indian Wars. The French allied with the Wabanaki Confederacy and the British Colonies allied with the Iroquois Confederacy. -
The Townshend Acts
Series of laws passed by the British Parliament placing duties on items imported by the colonists. The reaction from the colonists was so intense that Great Britian repealed all the taxes except the one on tea. -
The Boston Massacre
British soldiers who were quartered in the city fire into a rioting mob. Five American civilians were killed. -
The Continental Congress
Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and Peyton Randolph invited delegations from all of the other colonies to meet in Philadelphia to debate the course of action in response to grievances of colonies against Great Britain.
