Jamesown

The House Of Burgesses
Governor George Yeardley came from England to Virginia to inform the colonists that it was decided by vote to form the General Assembly as part of a Legislative Government. There were twenty-two Burgesses representing eleven colonies.

The Great Puritan Migration
The Puritans left England due to religious persecution and came to Massachusetts on the Mayflower. They formed the Plymouth Colony, which was the fist colony in New England.

The Mayflower Compact was signed by those on the Mayflower. It was the first government document signed in Plymouth.

Massachusetts Bay Colony
The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded as a result of the Great Puritan Migration. The colony was a charter colony or a colony that could self-govern as long as the laws in place were not contradicting those in England.

Maryland Toleration Act
The Maryland Toleration Act made sure that its settlers had the freedom to pursue religion without persecution. It made blaspheme a crime and prohibited derogatory reference to other religions.

Bacon's Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon led his militia to Jamestown, and they ransacked and burned the colony, and even threatened the governor of Virginia. Bacon was considered a rebel, and due to his and his militia's actions, several of the members were executed.

Salem Witch Trials
In Massachusetts Bay, there were people who thought a smallpox outbreak was caused by the rivalry between families in Salem Village. The court trials that happened led to over one hundred fifty men and women being imprisoned for witchcraft. About nineteen of these prisoners were hanged.

Great Awakening
The Great Awakening led to a lot of changes within the church. A new concept emerged; Man can choose God instead of God choosing man. This led the path for Jonathan Edwards to preach fear into people in hopes of them believing in God and repenting.

Albany Plan
The Albany Plan of Union was adopted by seven of the British North American Colonies, in hopes of bringing the colonies under a government that was more central. The plan was never put into action, but it carved a path to the colonies becoming under one government.
