    Sir Walter Raleigh was given a charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1585. It said that he as allowed to claim land in North America.

    In 1585 a colony called Roanoke was founded. It was located in North Carolina and it was not a good place for farming, and it was hard to get supplies. So in this colony it was hard to live, and in 1590 everyone was gone.

    The Virginia Company had around 120 colonists go to an area in Virginia. This is how Jamestown was established because the colonists went to Virginia and while they were there they established Jamestown.

    Jamestown was the first permanent British colony in North America and it was in Virginia next to the James River. Jamestown was located in Virginia so it was located in the southern colonies. Also, in the southern colonies they had a lot of farming because the soil there was good for farming.

    The Mayflower was a ship that had about 100 separatists on it. Separatists or Pilgrims went left and traveled to North America because of religious reasons. The Mayflower traveled to around what is now Cape Cod.

    The Mayflower Compact was an agreement created by the pilgrims and it said many things like laws that they had and things that related to how they lived. And this was signed in 1620.

    They went to North America and they also made a new colony and they named it the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was called that because it was near the Massachusetts Bay. They also created Boston which was one of the largest cities.

    In 1636 Connecticut and Rhode Island were founded. Both Connecticut and Rhode Island are New England colonies so after they were founded they was the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. And after that in 1679 New Hampshire was founded.

    Georgia was a colony in the southern colonies and it was established in 1733. The colony was in the southern colonies so there were many farms because in the southern colonies there was a lot of farms and plantations.

    1736 was the year that Benjamin Franklin founded the Union Fire Company. This was a big deal because most of the structures were made of wood and that maddest easy for them to catch on fire and then spread, so having the fire company helped prevent the fires.
