1st Patriotic Song
One of the first antecedents of the national anthem was presented on the on the designated date, when Francisco Villalba composed a patriotic song for the Nueva Granadabased on the "Marcha Real" melody,the Spain kingdom anthem. -
1st Anthem
Henry Price gave music to some verses written by Santiago Pérez,in an anthem called "Canción Nacional". It was not well-received, because of its simplicity. -
2nd anthem
José Caicedo Rojas wrote a poem and José Joaquín Guarín composed the melody of this, making the "Oda al 20 de Julio" Anthem. It was not well received for its complexity. -
"Himno Patriótico"
"Himno patriótico" was written by the President of the Republic Rafael Núñez, in honor of Cartagena, which was composed to declare it publicly in the celebration of the date, and published in the newspaper La Democracia. -
National anthem competition
in this date, the decree 256 convened a ccompetition to select Colombia's national Anthem. The jury of this event was the political José María Quijano, the poet Rafael Pombo and the musician Carlos Schloss. None of the presented Anthems were good so the competition was a total fail. -
Himno Patriótico 2
the poem by Rafael Núñez was adapted, improved and published by the author himself in the magazine Hebdomadaria number 3 and 4. -
Cartagena's song
the theater director José Domingo Torres, who used to animate the national holidays, looked for the Italian teacher Oreste Sindici to ask for the composition of a song on the occasion of the celebration of the independence of Cartagena. The pre-release of the melody would take place under a tamarind tree in the main park of the Cundinamarca municipality on the date, after the Sunday mass. -
Himno Patriótico Presented officialy
President Rafael Núñez learned of the repercussion of the melody and invited Oreste Sindici to present it officially. In this way, government minister Felipe Fermín Paul was commissioned to organize a presentation of the hymn on the date at 9 p.m in the room of degrees of the Palace of San Carlos, located at the moment in the Museum of Colonial Art. -
Himno Patriótico became popular
The song quickly became well known and several editions were published throughout the country in the following years. In 1890 the anthem was performed in Rome, Mexico, Lima, Caracas and Curacao. -
Phonographic record
The first phonographic recording was made in the studies of the Columbia Phonograph Company in New York in July 1910, interpreted by the musical group "La Lira Antioqueña" to celebrate the first centenary of the Independence of Colombia.This job was made by Juan Sebastián Gutiérrez Martínez for the english class.
