    People stopped having kids for a while and started again suddenly, causing the baby boom. During the depression kids were too costly. In WWII the men were fighting at war, so there weren't many births. In 1945-54 the US grew greatly from 9 to 29 million. As WWII was over and men were home. Couples had kids all at once to make up for lost time. It's important as there was an over population for a long time. It also impacted society as is caused better health care for kids and pregnant woman.
  • Joe McCarthy

    Joe McCarthy
    Joe McCarthy was a senator from Wisconsin. In 1953 Joe claimed that he had a list of 57 communist state department employees. But he couldn't prove his claim. Many people ended up getting fired. Others were afraid to defend accused workers. In addition, Joe also claimed that there were communists in the army. Finally, he was censured and lost power. This was important to history as it scared many Americans. McCarthy's claim impacted society because it spread fear of communism through the nation.

    In 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson resulted in "Separate, but equal facilities." In 1954, Oliver Brown made a risky move. He asked the school board to let his daughter of color attend a white school. The school was much closer to home. NAACP helped file a lawsuit. Thurgood Marshall also helped. Then, segregated schools were found to violate the 14th Amendment. Brown vs Board impacted politics as the Supreme Court desegregated all schools. Its importance was, it overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson case.

    The Berlin wall was built because 3 million Berliners fled to West Berlin. This embarrassed the Soviet Union. Then, East German soldiers began building a wall of concrete and barbed wire across Berlin. They built the Berlin Wall on August 1961. Anyone on the East Berlin side was stuck. Those who tried to escape were shot by guards. It's important to history because it's a symbol of the Cold War. The Berlin Wall impacted society because innocent people suffered for years until it fell in 1989.
  • Kent State Massacre

    Kent State Massacre
    On May 4, 1970 at an Ohio school the massacre took place.The students began a protest and the national guardsmen tried to stop it. The protest was due to Nixon's pledge to send troops to Cambodia. Violence led to police clubbing the students, and the guardsmen shooting, killing 4 students and wounding 9. The importance of this event was that 25 kids and professors were found guilty. The guardsmen were not blamed. The massacre impacted society as kids died and innocent people were blamed.
  • Gerald Ford

    Gerald Ford
    Gerald Ford was a republican president of the US from 1974-76. He wasn't actually elected but took over for Nixon after he resigned. Ford was a Michigan congressman for 25 years. He was also a model in his younger ages. In addition, there were two assassination attempts made against him. Gerald's importance was that he started trade with the Soviet Union. He was also a part of the investigation of John F. Kennedy's assassination. Gerald Ford impacted politics because he pardoned Richard Nixon.

    Ronald Reagan was a republican candidate running for office. He became the 40th president of the U.S. Reagan became president in 1980 and his presidency lasted until 1988. Before his presidency he was the governor of California. Reagan also acted in over 50 films. His presidency is important to history because the USSR summits, money was cut in education, he helped reduce nuclear weapons, and put woman justice on the supreme court. He also impacted economy because Reaganomics cut taxes.

    The Social Network Revolution allows people across the globe to get involved in social media. The media allows people to interact through a computer and connect. Cites include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. The first cite was Geocities made in 1994, social media has grown in popularity since, with cites like Instagram and Snapchat. It's important as it's an easy way to connect, get to know others, and job search. This has impacted society as it has changed the way we interact with each other.
