    The main people involved in this event were people all over the U.S. In this event, the birthrate in the U.S increased. It grew from 29 million in the 1950's from 9 million in the 1930's. The reason why this happened was to make up lost time during the Great Depression and World War 2. It was too expensive or too difficult to do during those times. There was better health care for children and pregnant women during the 1940's and 1950's. This event was very well known.
  • United Nations

    United Nations
    The countries involved in the United Nations were the United States, England, France, Russia, and China. They solved disputes, helped disease and hunger, improved education, and provided vaccines. This event was located in New York City in 1945 at the Yalta Conference. The United Nations were important because they were a peace keeping organization and kept peace between countries. United Nations impacted society because they did many things to help society. They had an economic & social council
  • Nato/Warsaw pact

    Nato/Warsaw pact
    The countries involved in the Nato event were the Soviet Union and the allies from World War 2. Nato is short for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This event helped each other if they're attacked. This could be a political or military alliance. It was founded in April 1949 by the World War 2 allies. The headquarters of the Nato pact were in Brussels, Belgium. The Soviet Union's military alliance was set up to go against Nato. The Warsaw Pact was founded in May 1955.The Pact ended in 1991.

    Brown Vs. Board of Education
    The main person involved in this event was Oliver Brown. In this event, he asked local schools to let his daughter attend an all white school. The reason why is because the school was closer to their house. The NAACP helped file a lawsuit, this violated the 14th amendment. This event was important because it overturned the Plessy and Ferguson case. Also, the supreme court desegregated all schools. The military was sent to integrate schools, especially in the south.
  • Medicare/Medicaid

    Medicare/Medicaid
    This event was started by president Lyndon Johnson in 1966. Medicare is when the U.S. government helps pay the hospital bills of citizens over the age of 65. Medicare covers about half of the health care charges. The people have to pay the rest of the charges with their own money or their own insurance. Medicaid was set up by Social Security Administration in 1965. Medicaid is the largest source of funding for people with low income. The benefits vary from state to state.
  • Robert Kennedy Assassination

    Robert Kennedy Assassination
    The main person in this event was Robert Kennedy. He was John F. Kennedy's brother. Robert was shot June 4, 1968 in Los Angeles, at the Ambassador Hotel. When he was shot, he was walking through the kitchen. The person who shot him was Sirhan Sirhan, he shot him with a .22 caliber. Sirhan was mad at the Kennedy's support for Israel's military policies. He didn't die right away, he died June 6th, at the age of 42. This event led to Secret Service protection for all future presidential candidates
  • Kent State Massacre

    Kent State Massacre
    An Ohio school was mainly involved in the Kent State Massacre. Students were protesting after Nixon's pledge to send troops to Cambridge. Police were bayoneting and clubbing student protesters. National Guardsmen met with hostile student protesters. 28 guardsmen fired 61 bullets into the crowd. 4 students were killed and 9 were wounded out of the 61 shots fired. Nation guard was NOT blamed for the massacre.

    The main person involved in the event was Richard Nixon, our president. During this event, 5 men broke into the Democratic headquarters, Nixon said he wasn't involved in the event. We found a tape in his office and it shows he was in the event. Richard went to trial for this case in July 1974. This event was important because Nixon got caught and was the only president to quit from office. The Watergate impacted politics because this was the only time one of our president quit office.
  • Jimmy Carter

    Jimmy Carter
    Jimmy Carter was the president in 1976 until 1980. He was Democratic and before he became president, he was the governor or Georgia. Jimmy signed the Helsinki Agreement and was a part of the Olympic boycott in 1980. Also, Carter had the Social Security Act passed. Another thing that happened when he was president was that he had some Iran hostages taken. An interesting fact about him is that he went to segregated schools when he was younger.

    George W. Bush was the president from 2000-2008. He was a republican. Before he became president, he was the Governor of Texas. George was president during the September 11th attack in 2001. He made tax relief, which means he paid all the the debt. Bush also made a group called "No Child Left Behind." While president Bush was in office, he took 900 days off during his term. Whether it was just sick days or vacation, he took 900 days off.

    Hurricane Katrina was the costliest United States hurricane.It was a category 5 hurricane with over 157 mph winds.It was a category 3 when it hit land and had a 115-130 mph winds.Catastrophic flooding in New Orleans due to levee failure.80% of the city was flooded.There was $81 billion in estimate damage.It affected 90,000 square miles of the city.70 countries pledged monetary donations to New Orleans.Kuwait made the largest single pledge if $500 million. 150,000 homes destroyed,and 900 churches

    Financial Crisis 2008
    In 2008 the world economy had it's most dangerous crisis since the Great Depression.Companies that relied on credit, suffered the most including the American Auto Industry Banks stopped making loans because no one payed them back. The crisis began when mortgage companies issued mortgages with people who couldn't pay so they went into foreclosure. Also, Insurance companies traded for credit swaps making trillions. The United states lost almost 2 million jobs and the unemployment rate shot up 7.2%
