    The TV Age
    The TV was invented for another source of entertainment. It was put for sale in the 1940s. Critics became huge for calling TV's an "idiot box" and educators were concerned that students might not do their homework. Almost overnight the lifestyles of Americans changed forever. TV commercials brought in over 1.5 million dollars in advertisement. The TV allowed people to watch presidential inaugurations and political conventions.
  • United Nations

    United Nations
    The United Nations in a peace keeping organization and was made in 1945 and located in New York City. There are 193 countries and 5 major countries that will never leave the UN. They impacted the society by solving diseases, hunger, and disputes. They also have Six Major Bodies including the Court of Justice, which is located in The Netherlands, a trusteeship, and an economic and social council.
  • Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was born in Georgia but spent most of his school career in California. He got accepted in the UCLA for four different sports. He played basketball, baseball, football, and ran in track. He was drafted into WWII as a 2nd Lieutenant. Jackie Robinson was the first African American Baseball player in the Major Leagues Baseball. As he was playing him and his family got threats from the KKK that they were going to kill him. He won a World Series in 1955. He died from heart problems.

    NATO/Warsaw Pact
    NATO( North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is members agreeing to help one another if attacked politically and military alliance. It is located in Brussels Belgium and was put together April 1945. The World War II allies were involved in making this happened. NATO is still around today. The Soviets military alliances was called the Warsaw Pact and was set up to go after NATO. It started in May of 1955 and ended in 1991.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis is a leading factor from the Bay of Pigs. The Cuban leader is getting money and nuclear weapons from the Soviet Union. Cuba is pointing the missiles in the US direction and we are scared we might get blasted. The US blockaded the Atlantic Ocean, said if the Soviets try to cross we will blast them. The Soviets turned around last minute and we both took out our nuclear weapons. It was one of the closest we've been to nuclear war. Installed a "hot line" to Moscow to talk.

    Richard Nixon/Watergate
    Richard Nixon is going to run for president as a republican in 1968 and wins. He promised to bring home all of the troops from the Vietnam War. The United States has a horrible economy at the time. On June 17, 1972, the Watergate building in Washington D.C was robbed by 5 men. They left the door open and Nixon assured that he wasn't involved. A tape was recording when Nixon was working. He went to trial to be impeached. It impacted society because he was the first president to resign.
  • Man on the Moon

    Man on the Moon
    On July 20, 1969 the spacecraft Apollo 11 went to space with 3 brave astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Micheal Collins. The broadcasting it on live television bringing in 600 million viewers. Armstrong was the first to step on the moon at 10:56 pm. They went into space because they wanted to plant an American flag and gather moon samples to study and return safely back to Earth. The United States was the first to make it to the moon.

    Ronald Reagan was president from 1980 - 1988 and he was apart of the republican party. Before he was president he was the governor of California and he was a movie star. He spent 100 billion dollars on Star Wars. He also created Reaganomics which cut taxes. He nominated 5 justices, and had a failed assassination attempt and was put in the hospital. He also helped with reducing nuclear weapons and cut money in education. He was also a lifeguard at the rock River in Dixon, IL.

    Challenger Explosion
    The Space Shuttle The Challenger exploded on Jan. 28, 1986 in Cape Canaveral, FL. The shuttle had 6 astronauts and a school teacher from NH. Millions tuned in to watch it live. At 11:39 it took off and at 59 sec it leaked black smoke that only NASA could see. At 74 sec it blasted into flames. All 7 astronauts died and both bodies and shuttle disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean. NASA's director was fired and the shuttle program was put on hold for 32 months before another shuttle launch.

    Persian Gulf War
    The Persian Gulf War was started by Saddam Hussein. He sent 100,000 troops to Kuwait. Kuwait had oil. It was to prevent Iraq from its influence in the Middle East. Bush Sr. sent in troops to Saudi Arabia. On January 16, 1991, the United Nations launched an air attack calling it "Desert Storm". 28 countries joined in. Withing 24 hours the Iraqi defense missiles are useless. War ends 6 weeks later. It costed billions of dollars to rebuild and $700 million to clean up oil spills.

    September 11, 2001 Attacks
    On Sept. 11, 2001 The World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania were all destroyed. The first attack was in NYC at 7:46am, Flight 11(American) & Flight 175(United). America was under attack since Pearl Harbor. Flight 77(American) slammed into the Pentagon at 9:43am in Washington D.C. Flight 93(United) comes down in Shanksville, PA. Attacks were planned by Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaida. Bin Laden was killed on May 1, 2011 by Navy Seals in Pakistan.
  • Iraq & Afghanistan Wars

    Iraq & Afghanistan Wars
    The wars started in October 2001 and March 2003 .They were protecting oil preserves, make the world safe from terrorists, and the possibility of Iraq employing weapons of mass destruction. This was also in response to the 9/11 attacks. The uNited Nations found no evidence of mass destruction. The evntual capture and death of Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. We helped the Iraqi´select their own gov´t. There was about 6,882 casualties and still counting. It costed $ 4-6 trillion.
