Cold War

1947

This was against the Communism and Democracy. Soviet Union was trying to influence other countries to be communist. This happened in 1947 to 1991. This was because people didn't want communism they wanted Democracy and people were scared communism was going to take over Europe just like hitler tried to do.

Brown vs Board

1954

Brown vs Board is trying to end segregation in schools. People started rioting at schools and soon military had to protect the children from people trying to hurt them so they would escort them into school, in the south. This was the first part of ending segregation in as one whole country every where would be free of this segregation but more of a challenge in the south then more north.

Elvis Presley

1955

Elvis was nicknamed the king of rock n roll, from 1956 to 1973. He was born January 8 1935 in mississippi. He was made some songs but then was drafted in the army. When he comes back he continues his singing career. 94 gold songs 40 gold albums 33 movies.

Berlin Wall

1961

Soviet union was flooding berlin and only got east side of berlin and 3 million people went over to the west side of berlin to keep away from the soviet union. This embarrassed the soviet union and so overnight people built a concrete wall to keep away from the west side. On the east side if you came to close you were shot but the west side you could do what ever.

Cuban Missile Crisis

1962

Soviet Union gave cuba weapons and built missile bases. American spy plane took pictures of cuban bases. JFK told citizens about the missile sites. Soviet ships were trying to defend but we had ships there too but soviet ships turned back at last second and this was the closet too nuclear war we have had yet. We took the missiles out of there.

Medicare

Jul 30, 1965

Medicare is very important. This went through congress and soon to be signed by Lyndon B Johnson on July 30 1965. Lots of people signed up for that were 65 or older. People considered this very important for america because people that were older trips to the hospital were getting more and more expensive.

MLK assaination

Apr 4, 1968

MLK Martin Luther King jr was assassinated on April 4 1968. He was a civil rights activists for equal rights for African Americans. He was shot in Memphis at a hotel. James Earl Ray was the assign. Everybody thought that he was a scapegoat for the goverment.

Gerald Ford

1974

He was a president for a half of term because Nixon was found guilty in knowing there was a burglary in one if the watergate buildings. Nixon knew about it and decided to resign from president, so his vice president Gerald Ford stepped up for a half of term. He is republican. He started trade with the Soviet Union. He was a big part of the Warren Commision. He also had two assaination attempts on him.

George H.W Bush

1988

George H.W Bush was elected president in 1988 and was republican. He was Ronald Reagan's vice president and he was from Texas. Americans with disabilities act was passed s every building had to make sure it was accessible for disabled people. Also the Berlin wall fell while he was president. Op desert storm happened as he was president.

Bill Clinton

1992

Bill Clinton was a democrat and was elected in 1992 and his 2nd term ended in 2000. He was the governor of Arkansas. When he was president he lowered deficit. He reformed healthcare and he sent 2,000 troops to bosnia because of there civil war.

Obama Inauguration

This happened on January 20 2009, Obama is now being sworn into president of the United States. The bible used to be sworn in was from Abe Lincolns presidency. It as over 100 years old. This was the most observed events in global audience, taken place in Washington D.C. Barack Obama was the first African American to be a president.
