    Berlin Airlift
    The Soviet Union blockaded rail, road, and water access to the Allies in Berlin. So the US and UK started airlifting supplies in. Without firing a shot the US foiled the Soviets plan.

    Creation of NATO
    North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Nato is consisted of The US, Canada, and several western European countries. Nato is a collective security against the Soviet Union.

    Fought on the Korean Peninsula between North and South Korea. The invasion of South Korea made president Truman afraid that the USSR and China would expand. The USA and its allies won the war.

    Creation of The Warsaw Pact
    Known as the Treaty of Friendship. Immediately after the Allies started helping West Germany. Was a treaty between USSR and other European countries.

    The U.S went to war for the purpose of preventing a communist takeover of the region. Was fought between North Vietnam which was allied with the USSR and China and South Vietnam. USA ended up losing this war.

    The earth's first artificial satellite. Was the size of a basketball. Really just for testing the method of placing an object in earth's orbit.
  • Construction of Berlin Wall

    Construction of Berlin Wall
    Built by the German Democratic Republic. Wall was used to cut off West Germany from East Germany. It was used to prevent the East Germans from escaping to Western Germany.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    A dangerous confrontation between U.S. and the USSR. It almost went to nuclear war but luckily it did not. JFK stopped it from happening.

    America sends a rocket with humans in it and lands on the moon. America was the first country to put people on the moon so there is an American Flag that's still there. President John F. Kennedy said in a speech that we would go to the moon before the end of a decade.

    Half a million people formed a protest in Berlin. The wall dividing East Berlin and West Berlin crumbled. East German leaders tried to calm the protests by loosening the borders to make travel easier for East Germans.
