  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Soviet forces decided to blockade rail, road, and water access to Allied-controlled areas of Berlin. The U.S. and the U.K. responded to this by airlifting food fuel to Berlin from West Germany's allied bases. They delivered 2.3 million tons of food, fuel, and supplies to West Berlin with more than 278,000 airdrops.

    Creation of Nato
    With the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty, popularly known as the Washington Treaty, forms the basis of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO. This was made to secure peace in Europe, promote cooperation among its members, and guard their freedom.

    This was fought between North Korea and South Korea, “the war was ineffective, pointless, and very costly” This was the general consensus of the American public. North Korea wanted to militarily take over South Korea and therefore unify Korea under a communist government.

    The Vietnam war was a war fought by Communist North Vietnam, supported by the USSR, and South Vietnam, supported by America. This ended with the North seizing South Vietnam. America signed the Paris Peace Accords making The U.S. withdraw from Vietnam in 1973.
  • Creation of Warsaw Pact

    Creation of Warsaw Pact
    Known as the Treaty of Friendship, was the alliance that was created by the USSR. This put together the USSR and 7 other Soviet satellite states. Some of these Soviet satellite states included East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    This started the space age and the US-USSR space race. Sputnik was the first artificial satellite in space. Sputnik in Russian means “Fellow Traveler”.
  • Construction of the Berlin Wall

    Soviet leaders of East Germany were alarmed by the large number of people going from East to West Berlin. So, they decided to stop it via the wall. More than 100 people died trying to cross the Berlin Wall.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day stand-off between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It all started when the U.S. caught the Soviet Union installing medium-range thermonuclear weapons in Castro's Cuba. John F. Kennedy resolved this by dismantling the missiles.

    Moon Landing
    Two American astronauts landed on the moon and were the first humans to walk on the lunar surface to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy. Only the U.S. has been successful in landing humans on the moon.
  • Destruction of the Berlin Wall

    Destruction of the Berlin Wall
    The fall of the Berlin Wall occurred during a peaceful Revolution. This marked the destruction of the wall and the figurative iron curtain. This started the end of communism in Eastern Central and Europe.
