Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference (Also known as the big three) was held February 4th through the 11th. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and many more attended the Yatla Conference to discuss the reorganization of post World War 2 Europe. -
VE-Day
On May 8th, 1945. Germany a country which 7 years ago was a super power in Europe is now defeated. The Red Army swarms Berlin on this day. Germany knowing their emanate defeat surrenders. -
The Iron Curtain
The Iron Curtain was an ideological conflict that divided Europe into two Separate areas from the end of World War 2 until the end of the Cold War. This term came up when the Soviet Union tried to separate themselves from the rest of Europe. -
Potsdam Confrence
This Confrence was held to discuss matters of territory, money, food ,and things of that nature. Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Harry S. Truman atteneded this Confrence with many others. -
Hiroshima
On August 6th 1945. The United States drops the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The 20 kiltion bomb know simply as "Little boy" kills approximately 80,000 people. -
Nagasaki
On August 9th 11945. Yet again the United States drops another nuke on Japan. This time on the city of Nagasaki. This nuclear strike lead to Japans Surrender and the end of the war. This 22 Kiloton bomb kills approximately 70,000 people. -
Stalins Hostile Speech
Stalin praised the Socialist Regime. Said things such as Communism and capitalism can not live together in peace. Created tension all over the world. -
Truman demands Russia leave Iran
During World War 2 the allied forces (Only Britain and Russia occupied Iran) took control of Iran until the end of the war. The allies mostly used Iran for transportation purposes. After World War 2 Britain pulled out of Iran but the Soviet Union did not. At this point Truman demanded that Russian forces leave Iran. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was an international relations policy created by the U.S. President Harry Truman in a speech given on March 12, 1947, which said that the United States would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent them from being taken over by commies. -
Communist forces take over Czechoslovakia
By now the Cold War has started. And on February 25th 1948 The Communist party has full control of Czechoslovakias government. Which made Western Forces scarmble to keep Communism out of Italy, France, and Germany. This only added fuel to the fire. -
The Marshall Plan
The European Recovery Program was the American initiative to aid Europe, in which the United States gave economic support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II in order to prevent the spread of Communism -
Creation of Israel
On May 14, 1948 David Ben-Gurion (the head of the Jewish Agency) establishment of the State of Israel.
U.S. President Harry S. Truman recognized the new nation on the same day. -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Air lift actually happened because the Soviet Union cut off all supplies to Western germany. So many of the Allies forces supplied western Germany with Air drops of supplies. -
Formation of NATO
During 1949 the thought of communism expanding scared the United States. So what they did is create NATO (Or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization). Which held the framework for the military standoff during the Cold War. -
Korean War
The Korean War, which occured June 25 1950 to July 27 1953. was a war between the Republic of Korea, United Nations, and and the Democratic Peoples of Reupblic of Korea. It was mostly started due to political divison in Korea. -
Suez Crisis
This was a diplomatic and military confrontation with Britain, France, Egypt on one side and Israel on the other. While this was going on the United Nations, Soviet Union, and the United States were doing there best to make them to back down. In the end they all did but not without adding tension all across the globe. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam was fought between North Vietnam, supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the United States and other anti-communist allies. -
Sputnik 1 & 2
Sputnik 1 and 2 were the first satilites ever released into space. Obviously sense this was during the Cold War this made the United States nervous, These two Satilites started the forever famous "Space Race" -
Creation of NASA
NASA was formed after Russia launched Sputnik. Which started the famous "Space Race" during the Cold War. -
The Vietnam War starts
The dispatching of 200,000 U.S. troops to Vietnam to stop the communist party. The United State at this time period was very scared of the Communist party. And they did their best to stop it. -
American U-2 Spy Plane shot down
An American U-2 spy plane was shot down while conducting espionage over the Soviet Union.This only created even more tension to the Cold War. And we seem to still do this today

A Good Change
John F. Kennedy elected President of USA.
JFK is the person that got us ahead in the "Space Race"
Sadly he is assassinated in 1962. -
Bay of Pigs invasion
This was a failed military invasion constructed by the CIA to take over Cuba.This was their attempt to destroy Fidel Castro. They sadly failed. -
The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was a barrier that was constructed by East Germany to completely cut off Western Germany. This caused the Berlin Air lift. -
The Cuban Missle Crisis
The Cuban Missle Crisis was a 13 day stand off when the United States not only placed missles in Europe aimed at Russia, but also tried to take over the Cuban Regime. After the United States failed to take Cuba, Russia made an agreement with Fidel Castro and started building missle sites to threaten the United States. -
President JFK assassinarted
A Very sad day in American History.
President Kennedy assassinated in Dallas, Texas.
Many people believe that it was Fidel Castro that made this happen. -
Pueblo Crisis
The USS Pueblo is an American technical research ship (Navy intelligence) which was boarded and captured by North Korean forces on 23 January 1968. -
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 lands on the moon. After Sputnik 1 and 2 were launched NASA was created and we did our best to catch up to the communists. Obviously this only helps with our position in the "Space Race". -
Vietnam war ends.
The Cease fire that ended the Vietnam war was signed October 11th 1973. This ended a very bloody conlfict between Capitalism and the Communists. But this was just a cease fire. Nothing More, nothing less. -
"I am not a crook"
On August 9th 1974 President Nixon resigned. There were many reasons why this happened. Such as the lack of politcal support, and the scandals of course. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States. Fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days (November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981). This all happened after a group of Iranian students, belonging to the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam's Line (who were supporting the Iranian Revolution) took over the US Embassy in Tehran. -
Boycotting of the Summer olympics
During 1979 the Soviet Union took over Afganistan. Which then persuaded Jimmy Carter to Boycott the Summer olympics which would be held in Russia. This is yet again an example of United States doing their best to repel the communist party. -
Tiananmen Square protests
The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, commonly known as the June Fourth Incident were student-led popular demonstrations in Beijing which took place in the spring of 1989 and received broad support from city residents, exposing deep splits within China's political leadership. This caused many casualties on both civilian and military side. -
The end of the Berlin Wall.
On November 9th 1989 the Berlin wall was destroyed. Not the entire wall but enough to say Germany was reunited. Over the next couple years the wall would be destroyed bit by bit. -
The fall of the Soviet Union
The USSR formally ceased to exist on 26 December 1991. Due to the Chernobyl accident and war in Afghanistan the Soviet Union was in a very weak state. The citizens had low morale and didnt have faith in their government. These are the reasons why the Soviet Union collpased.
