    Creation of NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created by the United States, Canada, and several Western European countries. NATO was created to provide security against the USSR and stop the spread of Communism. Later, the USSR created the Warsaw Pact to do the opposite; spread communism and stop capitalism.
  • Berin Airlift

    Berin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift, also known as the Berlin blockade, was one of the first international crises in the Cold War. The USSR blocked all highways, railroads, and canals from West Germany into Western Berlin. The USSR believed that this would make the U.S., France, and Britain retreat. However, instead of retreating, the U.S. and its allies decided to supply their sectors of the city from the air.

    Korean War

    The Korean War was officially fought between North and South Korea. The war began when North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950. The United States entered the Korean War in an attempt to stop the spread of communism.The Korean War never had a clear victor and the combatants never officially signed a Peace Treaty.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    Creation of the Warsaw Pact
    The Soviet Union created the Warsaw Pact as a counteract against NATO, which was led by the U.S. in 1949. The Warsaw Pact was created as a military alliance between European Communist countries in order to fight against the spread of Capitalism in Europe. East Germany was part of the Warsaw Pact until 1990, when it reunified with West Germany.

    Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war was officially fought between North and South Vietnam. The United States entered the Vietnam War in an attempt to stop the spread of communism. The U.S. and South Vietnam had victory over North Vietnam and Viet Cong. April 30, 1975 marked the fall of Saigon.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Sputnik 1 was the first artificial Earth satellite. It was launched by the Soviet Union as part of the “Soviet Space Program”. Three weeks after Sputnik began to orbit, its batteries ran out.
  • Construction of the Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was constructed to separate East Germany territory from West Germany territory. Constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR) of East Germany. The wall stood for over 28 years until its order of deconstruction by the government on November 9. 1989.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a direct confrontation between the US and USSR during the Cold War. The crisis was primarily played out at the White House and the Kremlin level. This event is also known as the October Crisis of 1962, the Caribbean Crisis, or the Missile Scare.

    The Moon landing was carried out by the United States. Neil Armstrong landed on the moon at 02:56 GMT on July 20, 1969. The United States' Apollo 11 was the first crewed mission to land on the moon.

    The “Fall of the Berlin Wall” marked the falling of the “Iron Curtain” between East and West Berlin. This event started the fall of communism in Europe. 5 days earlier, half a million people gathered in a mass protest against the Berlin Wall.
