United Nations Formed
The United Nations was formed in 1945 in an attempt to stabilize international peace and security. It was a response too World War 2, and it is essentially the new and improved League of Nations. -
The Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was formed because American National Security now depended on not only Americans security, but now they needed to focus on the spread of communism to other countries. The Truman Doctrine basically stated that the U.S. would help any country under threat of soviets. -
Hollywood 10
A group of 10 film industry members who refused to talk on a anti-communist committee. This was when the fear of Russian spies and mccarthyism was at an all time high. -
Marshall Plan
The purpose of the Marshall Plan was to economically help countries recover after WW2. Basically it was made to help the U.S's allies economically recover. -
Nato Formed
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was a response to the ever growing threat that the soviet union posed. It was made to secure peace and to promote cooperation with the members. -
Korean War
North Korea attempted to take over South Korea with the intent of reconnecting communism and Korea. President Harry S. Truman sent troops over to South Korea to help protect South Korea from North Korea. -
U.S. Officials enter the Vietnam War
The U.S. entered the Vietnam war because they feared the threatening spread of communism. The Vietnam war started because Northern Vietnam wanted to reunite the country by spreading communism. Of course this angered Southern Vietnam and a war ensued. -
Space Race
The Space race was basically when the Soviets told America that they were also going to participating in the space race. The Soviets were first to launch a satellite into space, that satellites name is Sputnik. When Sputnik was launched the U.S. feared that they were behind the Soviets. Of course later the U.S send the first man to the moon which kind of makes them the victors. -
Bay of Pigs
A failed attack by the CIA which attempted to push Fidel Castro out of power. Ironically the failed attack only ended up strengthening Fidel's position. -
Berlin Wall Goes Up
The Berlin Wall went up to seperate the german democratic republic and the federal republic of germany. Germany was split up because the allies wanted wanted to have some sort of control of germany, so it was split into 4 zones. Eventually the zones merged into 2 zones. -
Soviets invade Afghanistan
This is when russia invaded afghanistan to support the pro soviet government. -
The Fall of the Berlin Wall
When the spokesman for East Berlin's Communist Party told citizens of GDR that they were free too cross the countries borders. 2 million people visited west berlin and they used hammers and picks to break the wall.
