  • Potsdam Conference 2

The leaders of the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union make this declaration because they discussed the occupation of Austria, the borders of Poland, the determination of reparations, and the Soviet Union’s role in Eastern Europe ("Potsdam Conference."). During the conference, Harry S. Truman told Joseph Stalin about the new bombs the US had and that they were going to use them against Japan.
  • Potsdam Conference 3

They made an ultimatum that told Japan to surrender and they used bigger bomb threats. Japan refused hat surrender which caused the US to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ("Potsdam Conference."). This is connected to other events on the timeline because the end result was either someone getting hurt or a war. The other side might just think that this is all just unreasonable because many people lost their lives just because one country wanted their way.
  • The Berlin Airlift 2

The state of west Germany was established. The NATO was created because of the Berlin Airlift (The Berlin Airlift). This event is like other events on the timeline because some other events are invasions where the invaders would take over the place and no one could do what they wanted. People might view this a something very dumb because there was no logic in blocking off Berlin.
  • The Berlkn Airlift 1

    The Berlkn Airlift 1
Soviet forces blockaded rail, road, and water access to allied-controlled areas of Berlin. The U.S. and U.K. responded by airlifting food and fuel to Berlin from Allied air bases in western Germany (The Berlin Airlift). This was caused because it was a result of competing occupation policies and rising tensions between western power and the Soviet Union (The Berlin Airlift). The crisis solidified the division of Europe.
  • NATO 1

This allowed the 12 nations to interact in various military actions ("North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).").
  • NATO 2

This was created to provide collective self-defense against the Soviet Union’s aggression ("North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)."). The NATO caused threats to many other countries which caused a start to the Cold War ("North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)."). This like many other events on the timeline because a lot of them are countries coming together to protect each other, but causing violence in other countries.
  • NATO 3

People on the other side might see the NATO as something unfair because they might believe that just because these countries have a fancy alliance, doesn’t mean that they get to go around starting a bunch of violence.
  • Korean War 1

    Korean War 1
On June 25, 1950, North Korea attacked South Korea ("Korean War."). North Korea wanted South Korea to be communists so the Soviet Union helped North Korea out because they were communists as well ("Korean War."). The Korean War was connected to other events on the timeline because many other people or alliances wanted their way and caused a lot of violence in trying to get their way. People on the other side might see the Korean War as something that was very unreasonable.
  • Korean War 3

North Korea didn’t have to fight South Korea just so they could get them to be communists. To this day North Korea and South Korea are still divided. North Korea was never successful in getting South Korea to be communists.
  • Vietnam War 1

There was a meeting that was a held with France, the Viet Minh, the United States, the Soviet Union, and other countries that decided to split the country into two. North Vietnam was lead by a communist named Ho Chi Minh and the South was led by an anti-communist named Ngo Dinh Diem (Vietnam War).
  • Vietnam War 2

In a result of this war, more than 1.3 million Vietnamese soldiers died, about 58,000 U.S. troops were killed, and more than two million civilians died. The Vietnam War is like other events on the timeline because there were many other where one country wanted everyone to be like them or a split country wanted their other half to be the same as them. All of these resulted in a war or a lot of violence.
  • Vietnam War 3

People on the other side might think that why can’t we just leave things the way they are? Like it doesn’t matter if another country is different, they weren’t doing anything wrong, so leave it the way it is.
  • Warsaw Pact 1

    Warsaw Pact 1
On May 14, 1955 the Soviets and Eastern Europe created an alliance and put troops and weapons in Eastern Europe ("Warsaw Pact."). This caused the Soviet Union to be forceful toward the other countries ("Warsaw Pact.").
  • Warsaw Pact 2

This is like the other events on the timeline because in all of them caused some kind of violence from the opposing side or violence caused from the events side. People on the other side might see this as something that could have been handled differently. The Warsaw Pact people could have made their alliance, but didn’t have to cause all the violence that came from it.
  • Hungarian Revolution 1

    Hungarian Revolution 1
In 1956, Soviet Union leader said a speech attacking the period of Joseph Stalin’s rule. Many people were not happy so there was a break out of active fighting in Hungary in October 1956. Rebels won the first phase of the revolution. The soviet union invaded Hungary to stop the revolution. The Hungarian Revolution caused Hungary to experience a slow evolution toward sonne internal autonomy (Hungarian Revolution).
  • Hungarian Revolution 2

This is like other events on the timeline because many of the other events resulted in a war or some kind of violence caused from a conflict of how some people thinks of things. Other people might see this as a dumb fight because the Soviet Union leader did not have to criticise Joseph Stalin’s rule.
  • Suez Crisis 1

    Suez Crisis 1
On July 26, 1956 Egyptian president, Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized the Suez canal. Nasser seized the British and America’s control over the Suez canal (Suez Crisis). • Suez Crisis 2

Israel invaded Egypt and advanced toward the Suez canal. British and French forces intervened and demanded that Israeli and Egyptian troops withdraw from the canal (Suez Crisis). On December 22 the UN evacuated British and French troops, and Israeli forces withdrew in March 1957 (Suez Crisis). After all of this, Nasser emerged from the Suez crisis as a victor and a hero for the cause of Arab and Egyptian nationalism.
  • Suez Crisis 3

The Suez crisis is like other events on the timeline because many of the other events were started with a problem that a country or more disagreed with and the conflict from it started violence and/or threats from one country to another. People from the other side might see this event as something that could have been avoided. The Egyptian president didn’t have to seize access from the canal to other countries.
  • Space Race/Sputnik 1

    Space Race/Sputnik 1
On October 4, 1957, Earth’s first artificial satellite was launched by the Soviet Union ("Sputnik"). America fell very far behind from other major countries in weapon technology and space technology ("Sputnik").
  • Space Race/Sputnik 2

America tested many satellites, but they all failed and soon after that, the Soviet Union launched the first satellite. Many people thought that America would very much fail in upcoming wars ("Sputnik"). The whole space race ended up causing the arms race to speed up because America and the Soviet Union were trying to beat each other in advancing in technology. The space race also increased Cold War tensions ("Sputnik").
  • Space Race/Sputnik 3

This is like other events on the timeline because all the events have caused violence or tensions between other countries. People on the other side of this might be confused on how America was so behind in their technology. They also might think that the whole space race was unnecessary because not everything has to be a race.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis 1

    Cuban Missile Crisis 1
On October 14, 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union leaders began a thirteen day military standoff (History.com). Another result is that a direct “hotline” communication link was installed between Moscow and Washington to help get rid of similar conflicts (History.com).
  • Cuban Missile Crisis 3

This is like other events on the timeline because one country is sending threats to other countries and there are many other events in the timeline like this. People in the other side if this might think that, yes you should keep yourself safe with weapons when you need them, but you don’t need to wave them in other people’s faces making yourself look better, but when there’s a war, chances are, you’re gonna lose.
  • Six Day War 1

    Six Day War 1

  • Six Day War 2

This event is like of the other events on the timeline because many of the other events had a war and they resulted in the death of many many people. Other people might view this event as something that was very dumb because this could have been avoided if Israel just didn’t destroy most of Egypt’s air force.
  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan 1

    Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan 1
On December 24, 1979, the Soviets sent 30,000 troops into Afghanistan. • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan 2

As a result of this invasion, the Soviets suffered 15,000 deaths and many more injured (Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan). This is like other events on the timeline because other events were invasions of other countries and resulted in the death of many people. Many people may look at this and think that these invasions are unnecessary because you can deal with things in a different way other than invading another country.
  • Glasnost & Perestroika 1

    Glasnost & Perestroika 1
Glasnot: In the 1980’s, the Soviet Union leader, Mikhal Gorbachev believed that the opening up of the political system was the only way to overcome inertia in the Soviet political and bureaucratic apparatus (Glasnot). He dramatically enlarged individual freedom. The media got greater freedom to publish editorials complaining about the government (Glasnot). As a result of this, the power of the communist party was reduced and multicandidate elections took place (Glasnot).
  • Glasnost & Perestroika 2

This is like another event on the timeline because the other event is like this one where the person is trying to change their country in a positive way. People on the other side might see this as a huge breakthrough. People might feel happy and glad that something was finally changed in the communist life.
Perestroika: In 1985, Mikhal Gorbachev wanted to create a program of moderate and controlled reform that would revitalize the stagnant Soviet economy (Perestroika).
  • Glasnost & Perestroika 3

In 1988, this all resulted into a new parliament that was made and for the first time voters could choose their candidates including non-communists (Perestroika). This is like another event on the timeline because the other event wanted to change their country in a positive way just like this one.
  • Glasnost & Perestroika 4

People on the other side might see this as a really good accomplishment for the country because it is really huge that Mikhal Gorbachev got the Soviet Union to understand the things he wanted.
